Electric or manual for catfish?

I really like using a regular filet knife, if it is sharp filleting a catfish is pretty fast.

Thanks for the comment. I prefer a manual knife too most of the time.

But I've had lots of requests for electric knife versions of my videos.

I have two electric filet knives but the most use they get are cutting bread and carving birds. Seems to me they work best on Sand bass more than any other fish.

First thing, ditch the blades that come with that knife. Replace with Mr. Twister blades. Second thing , cut just above , and go beside the rib cage. No reason to dull your blade for something you are going to cut out anyway.

I agree with Littlewheel. Cutting through the ribs just serves to dull blades and wastes time.
Over the years, I have found Bubba Blade and American Angler to be the best electric knives. I use them on every species of fish.

The Bubba Blade is just more comfortable in my hand when cleaning lots of fish at once. The American Angler is a great knife also.

My wife bought me the bubba blade last year as a gift. I have tried to use it successfully many times but I think the blades are just not fast enough. I have gone back to using my electric knife and can clean a mess of fish in half the time.

The blades that come with the Bubba Blade are terrible. Mr Twister blades are a game changer with that electric knife

For those times that you cut through the skin, get you an old fork. Makes holding the skin down easy while you fix the opps.

Happen to have a video showing this? I just cut straight thru like OP, but I've often wondered if there's an easy way to somehow bypass the rib bones. I know it's possible, but is it worth an extra minute when filleting a bunch of them?

I will do a video at some point and show how we do it. It is pretty easy and doesn’t take any longer.
