Caught these yesterday in the river above Canyon Lake. Put in at ramp 11 and headed upstream about a mile. All were caught using chicken livers in about 30 foot of water. Really a nice couple of hours.... only saw one other boat during the trip.

Where is ramp 11? Is it open? I mean...I assume it's open, but I can't believe that it's open

Nice looking fish but if i am not mistaken doesn't Canyon Lake have a consumtion ban or does it not apply to catfish? I did notice you said you were fising in the river so suppose that would be safe. Here's what is says on the TPWD website so looks like your safe.
Central Texas Canyon Lake in Comal County Chemical of Concern: Mercury
For striped bass and longnose gar, adults and children 12 and older are advised to eat no more than two 8-ounce servings per month. Children under 12 should eat no more than two 4-ounce servings per month. Pregnant women, women who could become pregnant and mothers who are breastfeeding are advised not to eat any striped bass or longnose gar from the lake.

Boat ramp 11 is off 306 west of Canyon Lake. The ramp is actually just off the Guadalupe River back through a subdivision. I can get there, but you would really have to look at a map because it is not really on the beaten path. The ramp is open and launching was not a problem at all.... I was the only boat there yesterday. I am not aware of any consumption ban.... we had several fillets for dinner last night..... YUMMY!

Hey Gents....just to clear the air....there IS a consumption ban, but it is only on Striped Bass at Canyon. Unless this rain has sparked a new consumption ban, that was the last I had heard. I thought I had read about high levels of mercury in gar, as well, but don't quote me on it. Once again, the ban was only on the striped bass at Canyon, and cats weren't affected. The TPWD site should offer any other info needed. Hope this helps out. Steven

You guys are right the ban is just on gar and striped bass if you'll look at my earlier post i copied the TPWD website ban and pasted it in just to clarify.
