Beautiful weather for being on the water, but not for catching fish. Sadly won't be able to get on the lake this weekend.
Will have to wait until 3/5 and it looks like it will be light south winds again. Might have to take off a day or two next week. Any advice on which days you think look best?

Anyone been had any luck lately? Think I am going Wednesday and I don't care if I catch crappie, catfish or stripers.....just want to catch something....lol. Whatcha got? Seriously any recent info for the area up around the Nolan and Kimbell bend areas or should we be going elsewhere?

I fished Sun & Mon, the area from Plowman up to the mouth of the Nolan.

Sunday the water temp was 46, air temp mid-50's. Pretty breezy, about 15 mph out of the north. Caught 8 stripers along the river channel, just off the bottom, about 20'-22' deep. Deadsticking flukes on a 1 oz jighead. Caught a couple on chartreuse, but most of the bites were on pink. 5 keepers 19-20" and 3 that were just under 18". It's incredible how fat & healthy the stripers are this time of year. I'm new to deadsticking, this was only my 2nd attempt. Missed about 4 or 5 good strikes.

Monday (yesterday) the weather was nicer, water temp 49-50, air temp upper 60's and very light wind. Fished the same area and same lures. Caught 4, two 20" keepers and released two that were right at 18".
Didn't see any big concentrations of fish on the graph. It seems they're kinda spread out along the river channel, rather than big numbers stacked up together.

Fished this same area Road Scholar described above on Wednesday march 2nd. It was mostly sunny with temps reaching the mid 70's with winds anywhere from none to 9 mph. Found good concentrations of fish but the bite was real slow. Catching 3 all from 17-17 3/4. Missed a few strikes as well. Every fish caught as on the pink fluke and 1 oz head. Also went down the river all the way to Steel Creek park and did not find concentrations of fish down that way. I talked with another boat that had found fish with a better bite in the white bluff area of the lake.

Retired Farmun, I fished on Wednesday too and had basically the exact same experience. To the point of being pretty funny, actually. I also caught 3- one 19" keeper and two just under. Fished in the area around the mouth of the Nolan without getting even a bump. Saw plenty of fish on the graph. Went all the way down almost to Steele Creek and worked my way back north and didn't see many fish at all. . No bites at all until I was almost back to Plowman. That's where I caught the 3. Water temps were 52-53. I guess deadsticking season is close to being over, I'm sure the water temps are rising a bit each day now.

Anyone have advice on bank fishing for stripes? Looking to get out on my few days off... thanks in advance

Sorry CrappieNoob...no idea for help with bank fishing. What is the current pattern now...have they moved back up to the main lake area yet?

No idea. Moved back to Texas in August. Heard March through may was when they follow for spawn. I figured I would give it a go with some swim baits

I have done well from the bank at the state park. 4 years ago I caught a 12 lb striper on a zara spook, which is bigger than any striper I've caught out of my boat at Whitney. I've also caught some in the 4 to 7 lb range from the bank there. The rocky bank at the east end of the park. The point where the rocks end. There's usually a south wind blowing, so the shad are pushed up to that bank. To your left there is shallow water, and straight out is deep water. Very good spot, I've also caught sand bass there, throwing Lil George's and Kastmaster spoons.

Thank you for the advice. I am assuming you are referring to the lake Whitney state park. I looked at the map online and believe that I have found the area you mentioned.

You're welcome. On that map of the state park, the area I'm talking about is near the camp spots on the far left side of the map. After you pass those camp spots, there's a small parking area just before you get to the water.

Got it done Saturday. Toughed out the white caps to land one and missed many chasers

Persistence will be rewarded. Sometimes it is much more rewarding to catch a few when it is tough vs catching many when it is easy.
