Thinking of getting a couple new rods, reels. Was thinking at least one with bait caster. And a lighter spinning for pond fishing.
I've pretty much used curado's but they are getting old. What model would you buy today? MG 150?

I have been swapping to lews super duty wide spools.
have a collection of revos, curados and some others but going to all lews on TFO rods, I really like the match up.

I've used garcia 5501's and 6501's for a long time, since around 1976. The 1 stands for left hand retrieve. They're big. They're heavy too. But they are easy to break down and clean and have a big spool. Not too expensive. I wouldn't suggest that anyone use one. It's just what I do. My current go to rig is a 6501 on a Falcon Coastal Medium Heavy 7'. Nothing flashy for sure but works for me in a variety of situations. I also have a Garcia Blue Yonder on a Temple Fork 11' rod, but that's a different animal for sure.

Tatula SV, you can thank me later. I'm a big fan of what Diawa has been putting out the last 5-6 years.

Diawa Tatulas get another vote from me. Watch sportsman outfitters or American legacy fishing for their deals.

Stick with shimano, I like the slx dc, you can chunk a bait a long ways, super smooth.

Depends on what you wanna spend. The metanium and aldebaron are about $420 but are awesome reels, the chronach150 can be had for about $279.

Although I fly fish 99% of the time I have a pretty good assortment of levelwind reels. I probably have more Shimanos than anything else, but I also have levelwinds from H2O, Abu Garcia, Daiwa, and Quantum. I’ve also tried some Lew’s reels that I really liked, although don’t own any. If I had to pick one brand I’d probably be looking at Abu or Shimano. But they all make great reels, and truth be told, I’d be happy with any of them. Try the reels from all the major brands and see which one(s) YOU like best.

I gravitated from Garcias to Shimano over the last 50 years.. Stuck to the 150 to 200 dollar range for years. Bit the bullet and bought the Curado dc and mounted it on a Loomis IMX Pro 843 cbr 7’ medium power fast, 8-14 lb test for throwing smaller crank baits… I don’t like throwing smaller baits but I can’t put this rig down, it works so well. Reel is great, rod is great.. together it’s a dream… I pulled an 8 pounder out of the thickest pad stems you can imagine on Martin creek with it earlier this year.. 10 lb test… surprised I got it in.. was thinking I should switched to heavy rod with 300 curado and braid but tossed it anyway and got blasted. 😆
