So sorry to read this. Prayers for those affected but especially the parents.

Those teen years with the growing amount of hormones which do change the mind (especially in males) are tough. I remember a time when I was 14 and had some outside family pressures and having the means to end it quickly. By the grace of God I escaped.

We have 3-hour football games and a thousand people show up. We have 1-hour seminars on ways to keep your kids from getting bogged down in social media depression and a half dozen parents show. My wife has been teaching for 15 years. I don't understand how parents have become so stupid. "Did you take my phone away from my kid??!!" is a very common question. Kids shouldn't even have a phone. I have thought for the past 5-10 years that with such a lack of any kind of unity in Washington politics, it could be a bipartisan stance to ban phones for anyone under 15. At least let them get to high school...your 4th grader doesn't need a phone. My daughter is in 6th grade and she is one of very few who doesn't have one, and she knows she won't and that's fine. Give the parents an out by disallowing it federally the same way we disallow guns for young people so the parents don't have to even take the hit for it - the government can take the hit. I don't get it. It's an almost fully preventable crisis.

That is hard to read. I always worry about my kids when I see them feeling kind of down. You never really know what they are thinking.

Hear hear. My 6th and 8th graders are the only ones in their grades without phones

It sucks but they don’t need a gun to commit suicide. I had a nephew and a neighbors son hang their self within a couple months of each other. For absolutely no reason.

I agree. And somehow we've come to a point as a society where suicide is seen as a valid option to solve life's problems. I don't know how to change that perspective, but it needs to change.

Prayers for all involved.

Man, this is super tough. Sure seems a lot more common these days. Very tough situations. Just makes your heart hurt for these people who felt so bad they felt like they had no other choice.

Maybe just more awareness/reporting/communication.

When I was 13 their was a business backing up to our backyard in Pt. Neches. When the owner opened one morning his son was in the office and had shot himself with a .38 to the head. He was 14. this was in 1967.

if 90% of the kids have phones, you might be causing your kids to be depressed by making them feel left out or uncared for.....
