I have a trip scheduled for next Monday thru Thursday at Sam Rayburn. Am bringing my 2 sons but we have never been there. The weather is supposed to be windy with 15 to 20 miles per hour. Launching from umphries pavilion. Should we cancel the trip or is it doable. Will be fishing out of a 17 foot G3 aluminum boat. Any advice ? Stay or go

Don't launch at Umphrey. Depending on the wind direction there are several areas you can launch and fish to avoid long runs in open water. Where are you staying?

M - W they're predicting a south wind, so look at a map and find ramps that are protected. You can find fishable water just about anywhere near one of the major ramps. I hate launching from the Pavilion no matter what the weather is.

Phoenix is right. Make sure you re all wearing your PFD and that kill switch is hooked to you when you are moving.

We are staying about 3 miles from umphrey. Was told from a buddy that’s where to launch but some advice on other launches would great. I can start researching for a south wind. I just have never been in the area. Thanks

About 3 miles from the pavilion. Do not mind driving at all as long as we can find somewhere to fish.

Just put in at Mill Creek Park. Plenty of good fishing in that area.

I agree with all of this! Mill Creek area is good and Little Creek has produced some big bass for me over the years including my personal best of 10.36 lbs! Good luck!

Launch at Five Fingers. Lots and lots of fishable water there.
