I've seen some of the stuff NASCAR does when it comes to sponsors and their drivers. They screen companies to make sure they are strong enough to back up all sponsorship deals with their teams before documents are signed. I just wonder if MLF and BASS do the same?

MLF and BASS don’t have a lot to do with sponsorships, with regards to anglers. Most anglers have sports “talent brokers” that help arrange sponsorships.

I feel your pain . I was awarded as Worldwide salesman of the year for a semiconductor company in 1994 . 3 months later I was fired for no cause and cost me $250K in upcoming commissions .
The following lawsuit lasted 7 + years and I got NOTHING even though they found the company at fault .
Lesson learned ---- my next contracts were rock solid and couldn't be broken without a significant payout .

I respectfully disagree. IF, and I stress IF, he has asked numerous times and tried to take the high road and nothing has happened, then I support him 100% in his pursuit of monies owed to him to him by whatever means necessary. Social Meedjuh is a powerful tool that he can be used to sell baits for a company. I’m sure if this company wasn’t giving him the run around, and the relationship were in good standing, they would have no issue with him using social meedjuh to sell their baits. Why is it not OK for him to use it for monies owed to him by said company? It has to work both ways. The company has a responsibility and obligation to keep up their end of the bargain as well. To many people are worried about tarnishing their image and get run over and want to kiss up to every fishing industry company. That’s not how it should work. If a company isn’t doing right, they should be called out if people have tried and tried to get monies owed to them with no result. It works both ways. Birge holds the power as he is the means for marketing baits and tackle and an up and coming young hammer …. not the bait company. IF, and again IF, he has tried the nice way, then too bad for the bait company. Don’t be a clown show. Maybe if of some of these people quit kissing the bait companies azzes they wouldn’t screw people over. But we live in a society where wanna-be pros will do dumb-azz stuff like put a wrap for a bait or tackle company, a forum or a tourney trail on their boat when they have ZERO affiliation with that organization. It’s just fun to “play pro fisherman” and make people believe you’re a pro and “look at me!! I’m such a stud “pro” fisherman!”……. SMH

^^^^ This was my point to my post, it's less about if it's an effective means of collection and more about what it says to potential sponsors.

So we still don’t know who it was or the complete context- which makes Birge a good for even posting what he did. All potential sponsors I am sure took note of a person that does more harm than good.

Yep. Hopefully the sponsors take notice and realize Zack has a sack and won’t tolerate being screwed over and deeked around by a company who thinks they can because it’s fishing and so many want to kiss their rear-ends. Good for him for standing up for himself.

Exactly- and his edit “this has been resolved “ was equally vague. For all we know the mystery company went Will Smith on him.

Or perhaps they just pass on him and he will never know.

I'll give you a real world example. A few years ago we had a deal go bad with a sponsor for a significant dollar figure. We stood our ground and eventually we had to get our counsel involved. There were some really tough uncomfortable calls and it took quite a while to reach a solution that worked for both parties. We didn't go to social burning them down airing these issues on the web and in fact other than me typing this here, it's never been addressed beyond that brand and our counsel. To this day, we deal with those individuals and because of how we handled the situation it's cordial and allowed for everyone to save face and feel good years later in a very small industry. We handled it like professionals and that's the point.

When another brand sees those posts from him, they potentially think to themselves "Do we want to get involved with someone who chooses those tactics and takes those steps to resolve issues/conflicts?" and if the answer is no, then it's impacted him and he will never know. The bad news is it appears that behavior was rewarded with a positive outcome, so that tactic will likely continue to be deployed in the future. Lol.

My two cents.
