Fished Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. To sum up the long weekend. Windy, Windier, Windiest…

First of all, shout out to Aaron and the guys at TBW for getting me back out on the water after totaling my lower unit. I didn’t really miss any weekends of fishing since we traveled for Spring Break and had family in town the following weekend. Besides a new lower unit, we added Garmin 1222 and LiveScope, Lithium batteries and new trailer fenders. I should be set for a while. grin

Anyway, back to the fishing. On Friday, the wind was out of the East. Not bad, but not my preferred direction. I’ve been getting some bites rather quickly in the mornings for awhile now. Same was the case on Friday. However, I had to move around and cover water to keep getting bites. I didn’t have as much gas as I thought when I got to the lake, so I didn’t get to run around much.

It seemed like you would catch one each place you tried but then that was about it. Ended up with 9 on the day in the 2-4# range. I caught everything on moving baits. Seemed like it was a different bait for each fish, shallow diver, flat side, lipless, chatterbait, spinnerbait, etc.

Didn’t see any beds or fish roaming the shallows. Water was light stain to stained but pretty good shape in the areas I fished. Lot of moss showing up in all of the areas I am fishing. Water temps from 58 – 64.

I got a later start on Saturday and didn’t get on the water until 10:30. I decided to hit some of the areas further up the lake that I didn’t get to on Friday. This time the wind was gusting out of the North. Back to the moving baits… The wind and the moss were limiting bait choices. Chatterbait and spinnerbait got nod for most of the day. Again, the bites were fairly consistent if you covered enough water. Not a lot of bites but the size ranged from 3-7#. I ended up with 12 on the day. I did see my first and only bed in one pocket. They were locked and I caught both in just a few casts. Even with the North wind the water temps were rising. By the end of the day, I found 69 degree water temp in one pocket.

I knew Sunday was going to be challenging with the forecasted winds. I was surprised by the number of boats already at the lake when I arrived. I assume there were more guys out practicing on Sunday that were fishing elsewhere on Saturday. I decided to try a few places before it got too windy. It was slow to start. I think the ever-changing wind direction wasn’t helping things. I figured everyone would be hitting all the traditional protected areas, so I focused on some less obvious and less protected areas. I caught a few 4lbers to start. However, it got more and more difficult to make any type of accurate cast and/or control the boat unless you were in a protected area.

The wind really churned up the lake on Sunday. Water temps were lower on Sunday even with the sun and warmer air temps. The wind was stirring up the cooler water and sediment in the lake. I never could get settle into an area. I ended up with 6 on the day and a lunker crappie on a spinnerbait.

The lake seems to be a few weeks behind schedule. I saw most guys beating the bank and/or looking for bedding fish. I saw a few managed to catch dinks. I don’t think the fish are deep, but they aren’t right on the bank either. It should be getting good with some stable weather.

All the moss in the lake is going to make fishing some areas and/or tactics difficult until it subsides.

On a side note, I didn’t get to play with the LiveScope much as I was too busy banging into timber. I did get to power pole down and play with it next to some cedars. I was cool getting to see a school of baitfish and watch your bait swim though it firsthand. Love the weight loss in the back end of the boat with the Lithium’s. It jumps up on pad in no time. Also, really notice a different on the trolling motor and how easily it pulls the boat around now.

A few nice ones from Saturday.

Now this is a report! Great job brother.

I was also out on Sunday and it was miserable...tried the main lake even with spot lock it made for a rough outing. The fish were just not there. I got one bite on a senko in a pocket and that was it. Besides the wind giving me a smacking and raw face, the shear lack of spots out of the direct wind made it a "fun" day for sure.

Think I fished every day but 1 since last Friday. Plenty of post spawners already. They are doing it early again this year IMO. Fishing has been good. Ive never caught the number of keepers in a full day than I did last week. Its refreshing fishing that lake and actually getting more than 6 bites in 8 hours.

I need to spot watch you.....ahahhahahahaha

Kidding, last week was good for me as well. But I was tied up for work most of the days so I know I missed out.

Honestly any way you want to catch em. I know that sounds pretty general but its true. It is Ray Roberts and she can turn brutal any second. I will say yesterday was the toughest day and last Friday (8 days before) was one of the best days Ive ever had on the lake.

Interesting. I missed most of March. I did see lots of pelicans and cormorants herding shad. I figure the sandies are close to doing their thing too.
