I’m gonna be shark fishing the first week of may around the Sabine pass area, any advice on how far out to drop my baits, I’ll have ≈1400 yrds of 100lb braid and 200-300 yrds of 120lb mono top shot. I’ve dropped at about 250 yrds before and at about 350 with no luck. Do I need to go further out or was it more likely that just no sharks wanted to take the bait

Could be both!

Have been working as many baits as I can, (jakes, rays, large mullet, whiting, large chunks of squid, crabs).

I think we were all spoiled this last summer from Bolivar south of Galveston with all of the bait options. Easy to find it, but I imagine that slowed a lot of the action.

I am sure there are far more experienced folks here, but are you running any spreads with other surf set-ups? Or just the one deep drop rod? I have been in the learning/researching phase the last year, so would be interested how people approach this as well.

I try and take a bit from the ice fishing crowd, and try and work various spreads on both my casting and deep drop set-ups, (angle set-ups to the left or right, depending upon wind, U-Shaped bait drops). Different distances and try and hit different guts. Find any get rip current spots or where you have some bottom change?

Guess patience is the other thing I am learning. Run out and drop two big baits and let it soak.
