Driving out here has been in a downward spiral for a long long time. I think law-enforcement either gave up or officially lost control or both during Covid May 2020.

They have stepped up their game lately on I30. I've seen a lot more people getting tickets than in the last 2 years.
The solution to any problem - work, love, money, whatever - is to go fishing, and the worse the problem, the longer the trip should be. --John Gierach

Arlington seems like they are trying but I think it’s only because more people have been killed on I 20 due to road rage than pretty much anywhere else in the state. Go anywhere else and it’s a crapshoot at best as to whether you will arrive or get back to your destination safely.

APD is on 30 every day. 20 is worked pretty heavy too. 161 from 30 to 183 has city (Irving/GP) and DPS daily and I’ve noticed GP stepping up radar around town as well.

Radar will increase as the weather improves.

I've been retired for 3 years now. So yeah, I'm an old. Yesterday morning I had to drive to the allergy doctors at 8:00 in the morning. I take 190 out to North Dallas where the office is located. I could not believe the traffic congestion, speed and lane changing. I was driving at 74-75 to keep up and folks were passing me like I was standing still and this was 4 lanes wide. Not one cop did I see. It may be that a cop on the side of the road could be a traffic hazard, I dunno.
I don't mind cops doing their jobs, we back the blue in my family. I can see how attitudes towards them from some factions would make them not so willing to get involved in some lawsuit.

Most of the issues involve people not being in their correct lane. If people 60 and older, all women and people with mattresses strapped to the roof of their old pos would stay in the far right lane things would go way better. The left lane is for people who gotta be somewhere

Look its not good and you absolutely have to drive very defensively. That does not mean slowly, it means being heads up and looking everywhere at once.
That said, our traffic and safety here is pretty damn good compared to many countries I have been to.
I have seen beautiful new highways with 4 lanes in each direction only accommodate vehicles two wide where 4 would fit. Why? Because no one even makes an attempt to drive in one lane. They roll down the middle of two lanes. Straddling them. No one gets mad, or upset, its just how its done. Cops at intersections bcs without them there no one would obey the lights and everyone would just jam into the intersection at once. I have seen it when the cops are not there. That is what they do. Its considered normal. No one trips on it.
They have a lot more accidents but deaths are rare due to the congestion and [censored] cars they typically have they cant go very fast.
I have seen this in the Middle East, Latin America, Asia... they drive very nicely in the UK though. Well mannered people the Brits.

I drive 40-50K a year and I’m with Bob. I’m doing 75 on a non-congested stretch and getting passed by an 86 civic with a donut tire on the front. During rush hour, it’s even worse.

I think I've seen that same car. At 8 in the morning, no doubt the majority of traffic were those folks heading to their workplaces. I did it for 39 years here, 635 morning and night. If I could give my grandchildren some advice, it would be to find a job or live somewhere that you didn't have to contend with this carp.

There are a few forces at work here. One, all the troopers are constantly on the border so there is very little rural traffic enforcement. Two, many agencies are dealing with a high number of functional vacancies due to people fleeing the profession. Traffic units get cut first due to having to staff patrol. Three, many jurisdictions saw little to no prosecution of anything during Covid meaning no one’s being held accountable. People have no reason not to drive like maniacs

Dallas to Sulphur Springs yesterday, 635 to 30E, saw five different municipalities working radar, and without fail, one of them was one-bullet-Barney in Cumby!
