Taking photos for a marathon in Arlington today and thought I saw a hummingbird beside me but on closer inspection of the photos, I think it’s a hummingbird moth.

I've been seeing those out here on the farm as well. I thought it was a hummingbird too. Never heard of a hummingbird moth.

Just showed this to the wife. She was telling be about this hummingbird she saw while working in the garden the other day and said it had a weird bent beak. Said it looked exactly like this

The first and only one I ever saw was in New York about 2 hours north of NYC. It looked and acted just like a hummingbird. But when it got right next to me I could clearly see that it was a moth and not a hummingbird. They are very cool looking.

If that’s a female moth, I wonder if a male hummingbird would want to smash it.

I have only seen one in my entire life. It was at the Caddo state park feeding on some kind of sap coming out of a tree. My Wife got a bunch of pictures, but I have no idea where they are.

Be safe,

That might depend on how the Hummer goes

We used to have some autumn sage and it drew them in. There would be 10 or more at a time. I thought they were baby hummingbirds the first few times I saw them.

They're called Clearwig moths. I used to have them at my house, but haven't seen them in years.

They probably got worn out from all the hummingbird smashing.
