In the past 12 months I have gone from 'it would be cool to catch some bigger catfish' to an obsession to the extent it's most of my focus these days. Some things are now already in place on my boat. A BIG lending net, a bunch of cast nets for catching bait, 'slinky' weights, leaders, floats, round 'shark' hooks and a cooler for keeping my baits cool.

The one thing I was missing was some decent rod rests. I had 4 Scotty type rocket launchers fitted, but they were not ideal especially with some big take downs, and in my small boat and given my (cough) advancing years, they really were a pita to get down to.

Catfish Tim has some really neat heavy duty rod holders on his boat that he made himself, but thats beyond my pay grade and I would probably either sink my boat or shoot myself if I tried making them - hah! Chris, El Gato, recently had the new MulTbar's fitted to his war Machine, so I took a deep breath (they are not cheap) and ordered a set for my small boat.

Oh man, they are awesome!!

Each MulTbar will take up to 4 rods holders, but I opted for 3 on each side, and will probably just use two at a time. My reptilian brain won't be able to function with 8 rods!!

They are beautifully made.

Each 'joint' has a locking hex nut to prevent them getting loose.

Et voila!

These things are strong, so it will be great not having to struggle to bend over to get the rod out when a big cat takes off with my bait! The rod holders themselves are "smackdown" rod holders, and again they are super nice and strong.

I can't wait to use them in anger.

One last final touch to convert my small boat to a cat fishing machine.

cheers

I want to call out a BIG thank you to my buddy Donny, gophish on this site, for offering to 'assist me' with the installation.

I say assist, because he basically did all the work, and he did a fantastic job! It's a big thing drilling holes in your boat, but Donny did a lot of prep including make some templates and back up aluminum plates to ensure the installation would withstand the pressure of a big take down, or two, and it's so solid I think you could tow the boat with them!

They work well for live baiting striper too!

The other thing I like about these is if you are out NOT fishing for cats, they are easy to remove and just leave the base pad there. Gives you the deck space back when you need it.

as info, I use a cordless impact gun on the big bolts at the knuckle points. Keeps things nice and tight.

Thanks for that, and great tip about using an impact gun.

Great install! And those things flat out work. I would have liked to have had a separate set of bars in mine, but there's no way to put a backing plate on it.

That's awesome. Chris Gato got me to get a set also. They are a Game Changer for sure. One thing you may do depending on your set up.
I ordered 2 extra plates so I can move mine around if I want. IE front to back. If you see me on the water say Hi. Blue and white Skeeter CC.
