I've been told increasing voltage to the livescope over 12 volts will improve image quality.
I purchased an adapter for the Dewalt 20 volt hand tool batteries - installed it - it indicated the livescope was getting 18.6 volts - but it only lasted for a little over an hour and went dead - replaced that battery with another fully charged Dewalt 20 volt battery and it only lasted a little over an hour and went dead.
What would be the problem with using a pair of 12 volt batteries in series to provide 24 volts to the llivescope?

I believe I remember watching a video from RMP that did a comparison in voltage. From what I remember they concluded that they saw minimal if any difference between clean 12V power and 24. I'm sure the video is still on YouTube somewhere.

Just run it off a dedicated 12v.

I do run it off a dedicated 12v without issue.
Only interested in increasing voltage if it helps imaging.
I was told the livescope works in a way like a microphone and speakers - the more voltage creates a stronger signal sending (as in an amp added to a microphone) therefore creating a stronger image received when reflected back (as in a "louder" sound coming from speaker)

f you didn't see a noticeable difference with 18.6vdc you won't see one with 24vcd

Why keep wasting money. If you don’t see fish with 12volts, 24 ain’t gonna make em there either. Haha.

what amp hour are the dewalt batteries you are using they need to be at least 6 or 8 ah supposedly you get 1 hour from each amp hour so 6 should last 6 hours and so on

A 93sv draws 1.0 amps and livescope draws .75 amps. so you may get about 3.5 hours off 6 amp battery

The dewalt batteries I tried are both 4 amp hours - each one indicated they were charged to 18.6 volts and each lasted about one hour fifteen minutes. The last voltage reading I saw before the units went off was something like 14.7 volts, then the next thing I know it went completely off. Replaced the first battery and almost exact same voltage reading and performance time.

These guys are the live scope gurus. They've been working on it since the first version came out. if they say it's a waste of time, i'd beleive them.

That video shows comparison between a clean 12 volt feed and a 24 volt feed.
He says to use 10 gage wire from a dedicated battery to the unit - with that you will not gain much using 24 volt feed.
Therefore, perhaps I should replace my power supply line from battery to unit.

Thanks, that video answered the question - however I think I will replace my power line from battery to unit with 10 gage or maybe 8 gage wire.

So i replied but deleted my comment because I dont have the scope yet...and it was a bit redundant. BUT.....ive read of lots of problems with mega units that I never faced. Only time my screen acted up was at the end of the day my last 2 days out (same trip). I really believe that wire is an underestimated variable that can be a real game changer. i also do like JL said and run the dedicated battery, but you can have all the juice you want and it wont be able to be used to its full potential if the wires dont let the juice flow! I think a lot of boats...even nice fiberglass rigs cut that corner and why you see people have problems. Im sure its lesser on the new new model boats since pretty much all units above the bottom tier suck juice at new levels compared to tech from 5-10 years ago....but i do think those 3, 5, and 10+ year old boats might not have the best wire for todays units.

Adds more weight...but i really believe in the dedicated battery+good wiring being able to do more than any other variables out there. its part of the reason i cant sell myself on lithiums! Ive NEVER experienced drop off or buggy power at any time of the day...even on day 2 of long back to backs without a charge (did this once or twice). And I think its more due to my set up than it is about the duracell batteries I run

As an electrician, if the wire coming out of the unit is not 10 gauge then running a bigger wire doesn't do anything for you in respect of how electricity works. The best thing to do is use a good multi strand wire the same size as what comes with your unit this will give you your maximum amp flow to your unit. Hope this helps
