I was going to put 10 - 15 lbs in a peanut sack with a brick and drop it down a tree trunk and then tie it off 3 feet above the bottom in about 10 feet of water at Lake Fork. Should I just drop the cubes around the tree base instead. How long do I wait before I start fishing that location? Any suggestions would be helpful. thanks, Bart

Just take some and throw a few handfulls out in 3-5' of water in 3-4 good spots(rocks, dropoff, point, etc.) Go back and fish each spot until one starts producing. Add another hand full every 20-30 min. You can also put them in a container and sink it in deeper water.

I just throw hands full around the boat. It draws them in pretty fast. When action slows down I throw out a few more. I have cleaned fish with there gut full of the cubes.

You can make dough bait with range cubes also. Soak a coffee can full of range cubes with "a little water", (trial by error), once soaked, you can add flour to it until you get the range cubes to become dough. Works very well for cats and carp. My Aunts recipe called for some Catfish charlie for a little blood taste.
Matt.

After you cast your bait, carefully coat each range cube in a layer of mayonnaise (it's waterproof). Attach little sails, made from toothpicks and index cards, to each one and let them sail out over the water. When they reach the right place, use a slingshot to blow each one apart so they'll sink over your bait.

Carp can eat a fishery out of grass in no time if over populated. Matt

Matt OMG....The misinformed speak loudly. Common carp do not eat growing grass. Seeds.... yes, fruit.....yes, decaying vegitation....occasionally. They do not eat growing hydrilla or millfoil or coonstail, or any emergent vegitation. Please think logicly, how do they bite off the grass with a sucker mouth? White Amur do eat growing vegitation and are stocked to control the aquatic vegitation by the TPWD.

And the Jap. grass carp the TP&W stocked in Conroe years back didn't eat all the vegitation either. You mentioned a few types of vegitation, there are literally 100's of native vegitations in Texas waters. Not just the few you can name. http://www.mountainx.com/news/2005/0727fish.phpIf anyone has doubt about the misinformed speaking, just google grass carp and read thousands of biologist reports. Thats the way they make a living, no need for me to speak, I'll let them do it for me. Matt

White amur is what you are calling a grass carp. It is not a carp. Grass carp is a nick name only.

This thread has been hijacked! I thought we were talking about how to use range cubes not catching carp.
I don't trust a catfisherman who doesn't have shad scales on his hands or his reels...period.
