You don’t break line or rods on hook sets because you check your line/retie and use blue Stren 14lb

Only one broken rod on a hook set. It was my first Carrot Stik and my last. It shattered in the middle of the blank!

Try using Berkley "Vanish" line. You WILL Break Off.

I have had a 10lber snap a rod. Usually my line breaks first in similar situations.
Suggestion buy Rods with a good warranty as these China rods are weak compared to real rods.
Good luck in your journey to catch a big bass with enough juicy to pop a rod.
Warning: do not use pool noodles on gunnels - Rod company claim that is the reason so many rods are breaking You need to clamp your reel to a 7ft piece of PVC pipe and use that and quit complaining since it was your fault the rod broke.

Switch to braid and set the hook into a metal dock or a rock crevice… I’ve broke 2 rods doing this. I realized I had to back of the hook set when using braid.
Hit the gym??? I’m 6’2 215 pounds in pretty good shape so I can cross their eyes pretty good. This may help your street cred lol

Bruh not to be a Tommy Topper here but I myself stand at 6'4 and weigh in at 227 lbs (down from 245 thank you very much). I can also bench 135lbs like 10 times. Thats a full plate brotha! So I have the requisite size and power to break stuff. So your suggesting set the hook into metal using braid... Got it! Imma get that street cred. Thanks!

Thanks! not so fast, you are more like 5' 2" and 135 dripping wet, THAT is why you can't break a rod or 14# line. man, some of the fish stories you see on here! and yes I have broken rods on hooksets, last one I broke was on a cast and it broke in the handle, mfr. defect and free replacement. I never break my 15# big game or so I hear.

Do you catch a lot of double digit fish? Both of my break offs last year looked to be DDs. I can honestly say that I've never ever had a pair of DDs slip out of my hands.

Big Game 15lb will break. You guys need to get out and fish more. Can't break your big game with your keyboard. Fish at Fork enough it will break. They laugh at 15lb as they tie it in a knot around the trees. If slack is in the line and you Johnny hook set, then that shocks the line with a loud pop. Have had to instruct some on how to properly hook fish.

Years ago fishing Fayette I hooked a 3lb Bass and when I lipped him into the boat the boat I saw a tiny torpedo stuck to his face. Line was still there as I pulled the line up was a Garcia Reel and Rod STILL THERE. The funny thing was the Pistol Grip was gone....I can only imagine the story about this HUGE FISH breaking his rod and taking his reel....MUST HAVE BEEN CLOSE TO 10LBS

I've broken a few rods on saltwater fish that were way too large for the rod size and a had few others broken by me or people I was fishing with closing a rod locker or tailgate on a rod. I've never had a rod fail due to something I would classify as a defect. Since I fish saltwater a lot, breaking line or teeth severing line is a regular part of the game. I've had very few line breaks on freshwater fish.
Two different times when I had a rod snap on a large saltwater fish, it snapped back and popped me in the face. That was 18-19 years ago and haven't had it happen since. Painful lesson learned.
The solution to any problem - work, love, money, whatever - is to go fishing, and the worse the problem, the longer the trip should be. --John Gierach

I have never in my many years broken a rod on a fish. In car doors? Yes. In truck beds? Oh yes. Rod lockers? Done that too. But never on a fish.
Also have never "broke off a fish". I have lost fish that got wrapped hopelessly and I pulled and pulled until he broke off but never had line break on a hook set. Never had line just "break off" as I was fighting a fish.
These things are reported on here and other places ALL THE TIME. I see the bruhs on social lamenting often about breaking rods on hook sets and fish "breaking off" when they are fighting them.
What am doing wrong? Why cant I break rods when boat flipping or on hook sets? Why is my line so strong it just does not randomly break while I am reeling in a fish?
Rods and lines are made so well... so strong these days. I cannot figure out how to get my cool fishing guy factor higher by breaking more stuff. Help a homie out yall. Maybe your rod is soft and you set the hook like a girl???? (No insult intended to girls, my wife is one and she sets the hook just fine) I wouldn't say I've broken a lot on hookset, maybe 3 over the last 30 years. Only one I believe was a defective rod (Phenix), the others were older and could have been banged, stepped on or otherwise abused... I have had knots break - a lot - over the last few years and it's cost me money. Developed a bad habit of slack line setting and floro just wasn't working like I wanted - payed more attention on sets and knot tying (also changed knot) and this seems to have gone away

I've snapped on boat flipping, snapped on hookset in brush trying to set the hook and pull the fish out at the same time, snapped on a faux fish, etc. It is not just one brand either. I believe the rating is a little lighter than what is on the rod for one brand I have broken the most. Most recent was a different brand and using 20lb floro, hung in brush and tried to force it out due to being too shallow to get to the lure. Speaking of, there is a almost brand new jack hammer on a brush not far from duck cover on Twak if anyone is looking for one.
