Took a friend DSing Saturday from noon to 5pm and we did surprisingly well for DSing in March. Been monitoring the weather all week and saw that artic freeze (in the teens with sleet ) on Friday that made me wanted to try DS. I was hoping for the water temp to be in the 40s for good DS and when I got to the ramp it was 47f, and as i headed toward the same 60fow area where i had sucess a month ago, the temp dropped to 45f woohoo! clap

First 3 hrs into the drift the number of fish followed was few but we boated 8 fish and missed about 15. But the last two hours more fish gradually followed  in shallower 50ft depth and we ended the day catching 49 fish with 10 overs up to 26". Fish are still healthy fat and fun to catch! And we also missed about 50 bites, i believe many of those misses were sandies.  Bubble gum flukes caught most and chartreuse second.

Wind was light, started West then South, then East lol. Sunny skies. The water temp only got up to 49f by 5pm so water temp in the 40s is what i been having success for DS in the 50 to 60ft depth at mid lake. I heard guys out west been DS well in 35 to 45fow also but that depth is too many areas for me to try lol.

I did went by myself a week ago when it was warmer and the water temp had a wide range 47 to 55f and the fish were harder to find. I ended up with 14 sandies, all West, and zero striper.

Once the water temp goes above 55f I will start fishing shallow more and eyeing the birds. Hope that helps a few.

Pics from Saturday. Good luck guys! cheers

Todd, you think the misses were tail slaps or short strikes from small fish ??

Thats a good possibility, Greg. We caught 2 sandies on the smaller teaser flukes on top and hence my guess. Also sandies look slightly smaller and shorter and more grouped on the graph. Just the best guesses.

Nice report! I tried fishing today in the howling wind and should have stayed home!

I will be glad when the wind settles down and we have some nicer weather. The wind takes some of the fun and enjoyment out fishing. Tight lines.
