03/09/2022: Well, it's been since 1/27/2022 that I caught a significant number of fish. Throughout February and the first 8 days of March, the most I could muster was one or two or three for a half day. The water got too cold for the fish here to bite on structure. I even went with some buddies and dead-sticked and the four of us caught no fish. The good news is that today I went out on Cedar Creek Lake and caught a limit of white bass in 3 1/2 hours. The water temp is back up to 55 degrees F after getting below 50 for most of February. The surprising thing about today's catch is that most were in 15 fow, and they showed up well on side-scan. I caught most by casting beyond them and working a #4 silver Mepps along the bottom. I also caught some straight down in 20 to 25 fow. jigging and lifting the Mepps. The spots where I caught them included Drew's Humps, Campbell's Hump, Dam Ridge, and Dam Hump West of the Pole.

Thanks for the update Dennis. I might try to get out there either today or next week. I've not been on the water since the beginning of February.

03/12/2022: Went out again Saturday and caught another limit. Best spot was Enchanted Isle Ridge where I caught 14 fish in the last hour fished. Water temp was 53.5 degrees there but was 51.5 degrees down near the dam. I think the two degrees made a difference in the fish's desire to bite. I went north thinking the less clear water would warm up faster, and it apparently did. Still using #4 silver Mepps fishing straight down in 19 to 25 fow. I fished from noon to 5 PM. Fishing should keep getting better as the water continues to warm up.

3/18/2022 and 3/19/2022: On Friday the 18th, it was very windy from the NW, but I had company coming to fish Saturday, so I got out and fished along protected water on the north shoreline of the Clear Creek Fork. I worked my way eastward until I found fish at 60 Acre Hump. Fish were in 19 fow, I set up over them, and caught a limit of 25 in about an hour. using a #4 silver Mepps spinner. On Saturday, one of my guests could not make it, but the other - Cliffshot - and I went out at 2 PM and fished until 6:30 and had the first real break-out day of the year - catching 109 fish: 106 white bass, a cat, a short hybrid, and a 12 inch yellow bass. We caught a few casting and working the Mepps along the bottom, but most were caught fishing straight down. Water temp varied from 56.5 to 60 degrees F. We checked spots from the dam to Enchanted Isle Ridge but only caught fish at Staubach Hump, Long Ridge West, 3-Jug Hump, the Rock Pile, and Enchanted Isle Ridge. The best spots were Long Ridge West in 22 fow, 3-Jug Hump in 19 fow, and the Rock Pile in 16 to 19 fow. Both of us used Mepps #4 with silver blades. We would let the bait to the bottom, lightly joggle it, then lift it up or move it sideways a foot or two. Here's a nice white that Cliff caught: ![[Linked Image]](https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/359x269q90/r/922/xrQOhs.jpg)

Thanks for the report as always, Dennis. My dad and I were out yesterday and did not have the same luck you did. We checked a few different spots and couldn’t seem to locate the fish. A couple questions if you don’t mind answering: how do you typically go about scanning a hump, point, etc? Do you drive the boat deep to shallow, make crisscrosses ,etc? How long do you typically spend scanning an area before moving on? Also, what speed do you find works best? I feel like we waste a lot of time by driving very slowly over these areas.
Thanks!

Enjoy reading your reports. Thanks for letting us tag along for awhile. Learned some about techniques and reading the fish on sonar. Gave me some hope that I could be better at this fishing thing someday. As far as the thumping, not sure I’m ready for the dance floor yet. Enjoyed meeting you and look forward to more reports.

jkowalkowski: I indeed do criss-cross humps, points, and drop-offs to find fish. I use side-scan, the graph topo map, and sonar as I do it. I move over about 25 yards before crossing back over the structure. Hopefully, I can see a grouping on the side-scan, but sometimes they are hugging the bottom so tightly that I have to use sonar with zoom X4 to see them - bumps along the bottom. I go from 3 to 5 mph. If they are really hard to see hugging the bottom, I'll keep it no faster than 3 mph.

3/25 - 3/26: I took neighbor Graham out on Friday from 1 to 6:30 PM. We caught 86: 79 white bass, 3 short hybrids, 2 yellow bass, a cat, and a 20 lb buffalo. We caught fish at Long Ridge West and 3-Jug Hump in 19 to 23 fow. We looked at a lot of other places as far north as Enchanted Isle Ridge, but they only in the two spots just mentioned. On Saturday Cliffshot and I went out from 10 AM to 5:30 PM and caught 178. We caught them at Campbell's Hump, Dam Ridge, Long Ridge, 3-Jug Hump, and Merimac Point. The best spot was Long Ridge, where we caught 70 big whites in an hour. We were using #4 silver Mepps.
