I know how to put Google Earth Waypoints into my Helix units.
My question is how do I transfer GE "Paths" or trails I've created and put it into my helix.
I've converted the file and uploaded it but it comes through was waypoints and not a trail... help
I've also heard birds cant upload the "Path" from GE and convert it to a trail... More Help!

my problem with this video is the problem I am running into. Its converting as individual waypoints instead of an actual trail. I am wanting to convert it as a trail(Solid line)

You have to configure GPS babble to output the paths. There are also 2 different extension types for birds. .ht and.hwr. Another option is to download Hummingbird PC, import the trails and points into that as a .GPX then have that convert them from there to the correct output.

So I typically save the kml file to my desktop, use gps visulaizer to transfer to a gpx, then use Bird PC to add it to a SD card. when I do this is just creates ind waypoints instead of a line. Seems like you are smarter than I am with ht and hwr. is there a better way?

I found out the hard way, all my points where connected and it looked like spaghetti. So I have to reverse it to get the .HT out and just have the .HWR part of the file. I have used GPS Babble (free, donation based) for a few years and it has been great for me. It will take the .KML native and export it to however you want. If you want to take the extra step form KML-GPX-HWR/HT or go from KML to HWR. It should export the points and tracks differently due to how they are saved in GE. I would guess that somewhere from GE to the unit they are being merged or the trail aspect is being stripped.
Download GPS Babble and give it a shot. If not send me a PM and we can work out a way I can convert it for you and email it back.

Or if you do not want to do that, I can meet you local ( I am in the Lewisville/Coppell area) to do the swap and delete the file in front of you. I don't want to low key take your saved info.

I've also heard birds cant upload the "Path" from GE and convert it to a trail... More Help! You cannot upload a GE Path directly to a Humminbird unit or HumminbirdPC directly. It needs to be converted to a gpx file first. There are several free options for that and GPS Visualizer is a good option and GPS Babel is also a good option. I believe your issue may possibly be with your "Default Track Settings". You may have the default set to "Dots" which will make your trails look like waypoints instead of a solid line. If you go into your "Nav" menu then down to the "Saved Track Defaults", then check to see if the "Style" is set to a "Dotted Line" vs a "Solid Line". There are 4 different track styles. This will only change the defaults for any new imported tracks. You will have to change any tracks already on your unit individually. Go to "Nav" menu, then "Waypoints, Routes, Tracks", then select the track you want to change, then select "Edit" and change the style to a "Solid Line". If you have several tracks to change, you can export your tracks, delete all the tracks on the unit, change your defaults, then re-import your tracks and they will be displayed to your new Default Settings.

A lot of the newer units will take a GPX file now days, however in playing around I have found the GPX does not break it out completely into points and trails, or will have the trails all as 1 connected trail making it spaghetti. I have helped a few guys get it cleaned up and sorted correctly. There are a couple extra steps if this happens and its overall an easy fix. Also remember Lowrance allows around 8K points on a trail, where Garmin and Bird are much much less. I have found out the hard way that trails will start overwriting when this happens and to be prepared, any trails that need to be retained should be set up as a new isolated trail. I happened to find this out when i was trying to run out of Indian on Ray Bob, but my trail was poof gone.... pucker factor increased greatly.

I happened to find this out when i was trying to run out of Indian on Ray Bob, but my trail was poof gone.... pucker factor increased greatly. I should have clarified my response a little better. I listed the steps needed to "import" Google Earth" Paths into Humminbird Helix units. Humminbird Solix units use gpx format. No brand will will directly import a Google Earth kml or kmz file. They all need to be converted to gpx. They will also need to be converted to gpx then "Run Through" HumminbirdPC for Helix units too. Humminbird units allow 20,000 track points per track. I don't have Lowrance units but I believe each track can have 24,000 track points per track. The "spaghetti lines are from track segmentation which Lowrance and Humminbird Solix units do support. You can create 1 track with multiple segments for Lowrance and Solix without having all the extra "straight spaghetti lines" very easily. Garmin units do not support segmented tracks so you will get all the "spaghetti lines" if you join multiple tracks into one track. The OP is using a Helix unit so that is why I mentioned checking the default for his tracks. If you convert a GE path to gpx using GPS Visualizer, it will convert just fine but will look like "Dots or Waypoints" if that is the default setting on the unit when it is imported. If you change the default to a "Solid" line before importing, it won't look like "dots or waypoints", but will look like a normal track. Note: GE uses the term "Path" instead of "Track". They are the same thing just different terminology. They still have to be converted from kml/kmz to whatever format your unit uses.
