Lake Kemp had a golden alge kill on December 4th. Does anyone know to what extent the fish kill was. I heard from one that it was minor. We fished there on March 4th and 5th and only caught two stripers. Never marked a school of fish, only a few singles. Saw no bait fish on the graph. Covered a lot of water from the dam to mid lake.

I live about 50 miles from Lake Kemp and because it is fed by the Wichita River I just avoid it.These lakes fed by the salty Wichita seem to have blooms every 5-8 years.............you're just not going to have large schools or grow big fish in that short of time. Not to mention its a pay to play lake.........just not worth my time or $$$

Lake Kemp – Water samples from Lake Kemp had low to moderate concentrations of P. parvum and toxicity to fish ranged from moderate to high.

Personally I'd pass

my dad had a cabin across from Rattlesnake Island...we caught catfish around that island...sandbass all over the place...trot lined in West Coffee under the geese when they came thru...course, this was back in the 50's - 60's...what a wonderful time in my life

MERCY - not receiving what you deserve
GRACE - receiving what you don't deserve
America's MESS = God's miracle fixes
I'd rather walk with God with no questions answered than to walk thru life without Him and know the answers

I too have fond memories of this lake,my great grandfather,my grandfather and a couple uncles had cabins on the lake.I stayed in those cabins from a small child til I left for the Navy at 18,1980.By the time I really had time to revisit any of this lake the cabins were gone as well as all those that had owned them.It was definitely a different lake in the 60's and 70's.If I had a nickel for every fish we pulled out of that lake and a penny for every great memory I have with my family I'd be quite the wealthy man today.

I bass fish this lake a couple times a year during the spawn. I always bring a smoked loaf of bologna to Oliver the little weiner dog the old couple owns at the booth.
Fun little lake to fish during the spawn. It's just a pretty good little drive from Allen but I do it.

When I was a kid, we had a place in the big moonshine. We used to run trot lines. Caught a bunch of big flatheads. Bass and crappie fishing. Quail hunting was great too. Skiing, tubing, dirt bikes.

Lots of great times and memories.

Jimmy
