It will take a while to sink in. I suspect some of the guys that try and fish every tournament every weekend will have to dial it back. The economics of tourney fishing are horrible anyway. Some will stay closer to home, not go practice 9 days for a media event lol etc. As to forward sonar I cant speak to that yet. I'm sure the technology will get a little cheaper, 2nd hand units will start to pop up etc. Just like with all of it there will be guys who really learn it and guys who just like to decorate their boats with it.

I pulled out of bass champs due to other reasons. But glad i did due to the fuel prices now. I was going to fish the northern division out of Abilene. I’m just fishing local open and 1 club this year.

Two weeks ago a boater and a co-angler spanked the field with nearly 60 LB combined without anything special. The guys with thew forward facing did OK. Perhaps going to new waters it is important.

I have put off my retiring. I’m 53 yrs old. I had planned on retiring back in July of 2019. But the pandemic made me nervous enough to work a couple more years. Now this over exaggerated inflation has me rethinking my egg again. I think I can have enough money by 2024, but it just keeps getting harder. I don’t want to keep building cars forever. I want to fish/guide 7 days a week…but I guess it is gonna have to wait till I’m 55.

Where do you build cars ? I am assuming you restore old cars, just curious, may want to restore one.

Pm returned.

For anyone that cares, I am working for Caddys family at Caddys Customs. DeSoto, Tx. Great place with LOTS of work. None of them fish…. bang

Then add double fuel rates, plus the increases in associated items, costs add up quickly. At what point does diminishing returns kick in?

Guess it is becoming a rich persons sport. flag

John Cox does fine in a tin boat with no forward sonar

Let's not act like he is running a flat bottom jon boat though. roflmao

I know the new mx21 is pretty nice, just saying he usually is at a speed disadvantage and doesnt spend all day on fancy graphs, just finds fish shallow.

A friend of mine isn't fishing a club tourney because of the fuel cost. It's quite a drive to get to the lake and the potential winnings doesn't even make it worthwhile for him.

Nobody fishes a club tourney for the money. roflmao
I fish two, sometimes three working man type club tourneys a week. If I win all three, in one week, I might have enough money to buy a boat part or fishing pole or something.

I love to fish. I love to compete. Fishing has helped take the place of what sports like football and baseball used to provide me in my younger years--a competitive outlet that I enjoy. If I win any money in a tournament, it's usually just an offset to where I didn't spend quite as much money doing what I enjoy doing.

If you fish tournaments to make money, either a) you are really good (good on you, good luck, and I look forward to donating my money to you in future events), or b) you didn't spend enough time in school to have a career good enough to support what probably should be a hobby.

Stay in school. Don't do drugs. Enjoy a Saturday on the lake.

Guess I missed who said anything about their wife that deserved that response? 🤷🏻‍♂️ Unfortunately I think this original question is too premature. Do I feel the pain of fuel prices? Sure. Has it made me stop anything I have been doing anyway(travel, fish…)? NO(not yet). The real problem(for me) is where is this going? (Hope I’m completely wrong) but I believe we haven’t seen anything yet. This snowball has just started rolling down the mountain. “LETS GO BRANDON”!

I wonder with all of the sophisticated equipment being used every day on every lake if the fish aren't just getting a lot smarter? LOL Daniel

I need to find a circuit that has like a 40$ entry so I can afford the gas to get there!
