I own a small service company and everything that I need to purchase to run my business is going up.
So my question is...how do I know what is a fair increase without pricing myself out of business?
How do I calculate a price increase?

I'm in the same boat. If it's something that I can't absorb, I try to gently pass along the cost without me making a profit on top of the cost I had to send to the customer. Some things I can absorb, some things I can't. Business is business.

Enough to maintain your operating costs and profit margin. Most customers know things are going up, but they can also spot most price gouging times too. As a consumer I want you to stay in business, yet not overcharge. It's a tough balance

May you be treated the way you treat other people, today and everyday!

I DO NOT add fuel surcharges or any other BS charges on my invoices to customers!

What business are you in, what's your competition doing? Whatever you're doing, stay with in line or slightly under with the market and what your competition is doing.

1 Gallon of fence stain I use was $25 a gallon 2 years ago. It's now $46 a gallon.

Price of Yamaha ring free was $15.00/quart now it’s $46.00 and that’s probably not “Today’s” price.

How much are the things you are buying going up at a time? 5%, 7%, 10%, 15%? It's not just you; EVERYTHING is more expensive and harder to come by. I had a GC call me yesterday and ask if I had something. He couldn't believe it when he was told it was 90-120 days out. I told him it was true. There appears to be no "short lead-time" items these days.

Building materials are up 50% in the last year- what I am seeing service companies have raised their rates to cover that and even more some. A 50 gallon heater is 2k installed in our market. That’s about 700 bucks in materials and 1300 bucks for 3-4 hours of labor….

Hard to know. Do your best to make small incremental increases rather than one huge jump

I will confirm the water heater price right here. I called 3 reputable companies and they were all within $60 of each other. 2 said no difference in price for a 40 vs a 50G so go with the 50.

I'm working on new menu now, I'm taking about 8 percent average on food, I already hit alcohol for 5 percent.
