Just saw this while watching this years Miami International Boat Show on Fox Sports 2. The show host said these deliver 70 nautical miles of travel on a charge and will fully recharge in just 3 hours. https://visionmarinetechnologies.com/

1 mile per kilowatt hour. I don't know if that is all that impressive. It uses lithium, it's a great battery advance. However, it is a metal that is much rarer than the fossil fuels our world runs on. Definitely NOT a renewable energy source by any definition of the word!

I also saw this outboard brand as we called Evoy, it looks like they are more in the developmental stage but boat manufactures at the thy MIBS were offering these installed on their boats. Up to 400 horsepower but the range doesn't appear as good. At the rate technology is advancing this will change. https://www.evoy.no/outboard-electric-motor-boat/

550 NM on the 300 - 633 Statute Miles. I don't think even I run my big motor that much on a trip, and I run and idle a BUNCH!!!

The price of that motor alone is probably going to approach $40,000! Is that about Double the Gas equivalent? bolt

I have to wonder what happens if there is a lightning strike in close proximity.

impossible to isolate the armature since it is part of the drive line, seems you would possibly have some problems. hmmm

If lightning strikes that close to my boat. I don’t give a [censored] about the motor. I’ll have bigger problems.

When I got my first bass boat some friends and I were out water skiing on the Ouachita River;(I was in my early 20's) at home and got caught in one of those afternoon heated thunderstorms Louisiana is famous for. It come up on us so quick all we could do was bank the boat and lay down in the floor. We had a cottonwood tree about 20 yards from us get hit and it rained tree bark on us. That is about as scared as I believe I've ever been. None of us got hurt but it could have killed all of us.

I used to fish a small lake in colorado in my canoe, great pike and kokanee lake so went often since it was less than 15 mins.
while on the water you could not see much to the w/nw/n due to peaks in the way. got caught on that lake more than once in spring storms and the lightning up there is not gets intense in some of them. I spent a few hrs. hiding under the canoe for all the good it would have done on a close strike.
