Would 15 pound be okay on a 4 power rod ? Perfect match.

One of my favorite setups is a NRX 852c with 12# Sniper. I use it for light t-rigs, weightless Senkos, and occasionally dropshot.

If you are a reach back and slack line em hooksetter, 12 # test would not be your friend.

Can you? Yes. Would I? No. I guess it depends on what you’re flipping though. Any sort of cover I’d go no less than 18. I flip 20 pound floro almost exclusively. If you’re flipping or throwing something around rock and no trees. Sure you could get away with it.

I've done it for years in heavy cover with 8 pound mono and finesse lures on Fork. Want to know how I do this and get away with it? Go read up on a gentleman named Guido Hibdon, former Bassmaster Classic winner.

Reaction bite. Put him in the bait before he even knows he has been hooked. Heavy line.

You can flip and pitch 4 pounds line….
You’re flip to land ratio goes up as pound test goes up. It is almost entirely a reaction bite, so I use 17-25 pound line…if I’m not using braid. The reason I like bigger line is most of the time the fish already has the bait and is swimming away when you realize what’s goin down. Like above, slack line hook sets are hard on gear. I don’t want to break off a good fish because I was using thin line that wasn’t appropriate for the job. I don’t think 20 lb fluorocarbon costs me bites when I’m using it around structure. But, 20lb sure helps when the fish has the upper hand right off the bat.

But, 20lb sure helps when the fish has the upper hand right off the bat. That's part of what I learned from watching Guido Hibdon over the years. If you use his set ups you don't have to set the hook; just start reeling. His deal was just keep pressure on them.. Once they figure out they can't get away they go to option "B" which is to head for deep water, leaving the cover. His reasoning for fishing this way? "You can't put them in the boat if you can't get bit"........

If its purely reaction why doesn’t everyone just use 50 pound braid?

Ask your self this question... if you knew that the fish of a lifetime was under that dock, would you be throwing 12lb test?
