TPWD is no longer displaying the Other Methods state record category (although the title is still Other Methods) and replaced it with an All-Tackle category. Based on the posting on the TPWD record webpage, the records have not been revoked, but you can no longer see them. I know several of you had records in this category, so for historic purposes, I am posting the last copy of the record page that I have. I believe it is from June 2021.

Unfortunately, I did not keep a copy of the Junior Angler records, so I am not able to post those. TPWD dropped the method column, so you cannot tell the method of the catch.

What exactly is other methods? I know about fly and regular. What’s this other method thing?

TPWD gives priority to Rod and Reel, Fly, and Bow fishing. Every other legal method falls into Other Methods. For saltwater the primary ones are Electric Rod and Reel, Spear Gun, Pole and Line, Trotline, Gig, and Handline. If you catch a fish with Other Methods, you could still get the All-Tackle Record, but you would have to exceed the weight for all the other categories.

After several angles asked about the types of other methods, I am posting an old list from 2019 that shows the method category so you can see the type of method used. Enjoy.

In Texas, bowfishing is not in the Other Methods category. Bowfishing in Texas has been elevated to an independent category.
