Anyone have any experience with this reel yet? Seems to be the best of the 200K and the 70 MGL without either of their weaknesses. Spool size allowing for longer casting than the 70. 2 pounds more drag than the 200K. Lower profile and lighter than the K. Seems flawless. Any weaknesses yall are aware of?

Just wanting some thoughts and opinions. Also, if this post has already happened, please point me in the right direction.

I haven't liked curados since they stopped making them in Japan.

The K holds a bit more line, comes in handy with 20 lb test. I like the K as much or more than the E Curado. Mine have been great. I would pick up the 150 mgl to use with 14lb or less line size,
looks like a great reel.

Soon as they are in stock I will get me a couple. I agree about it being the best of both worlds between the K200 and K70. Looks like a black Metanium. I'm excited to give them a try.

Resurrecting this thread. Anyone have more opinions to offer on this reel now that it has been out for a bit?

I have one and have only fished a few trips with it. So far I love it! Contemplating replacing a few more K's with them.

I’ve had one for about 2 months now. Like the OP mentioned, on paper it’s the best of both worlds. First couple of trips I had 20 pound floro on it and could not get any combination of settings that would stop it from backlash. Normally I’d blame the line but I have the same line on two other shimano reels. I went down to 17 on it and there was a big improvement but still not quite right. I get a backlash about every 6 cast. I’ll probably repurpose it and used it with 12 to 15 floro and other techniques.

I planned to buy a few more but am now rethinking that plan. The reel that seems to perform the best to me of the lower end Shimano is the SLX MGL. What I like most is the external break adjustment. It really helps when there are wind changes or switching baits.

I find that very interesting. I have two of them. One on a swimjig rod with 20lb test and another on a squarebill rod with 12 lb test. They both work flawlessly for me. Very compact but has a better line capacity than the 70 series. For my application, with the addition of the curado 150, I'm no longer interested in the 70 series.

I have 3. So far so good. One is my main C-Rig reel and it's been a beast. It's gotten the most usage by far. Sits low on the rod, casts great, and haven't had an issue that wasn't my fault. I don't have a ton of line left after a long deeper cast, but have plenty enough left to work with. The other two are on cranking rigs which I've used sparingly this season. One is my mid crank (8-15ft) reel that I have used a bit, and again, so far so good. No issues whatsoever and plenty smooth. I'd say they are on paper what they are in person from my experience.

I looked at them pretty good but since I need to replace 11 curado B 100’s and 9 MG 50’s since parts are not available. I went with the SLX 70 mgl, for a 50 dollar savings per reel. So far the 4 I bought have been great. I’ve taken them to Brazil and caught a 21 # peacock and several other double digits with no drag issues, been to Mexico and caught upwards of 100 fish a day with no issues. For fishing here they are on my spinnerbait, chatterbait and buzzbait rods and cast well.

And they fit in my small hands.

Does the mgl spool cast weightless (or lightweight) plastics better than the regular curado reel?
