Hopefully that exception happens this year. That would be a treat for this crazy start of the year. Hybrids on the fly are crazy !

Struggled to find places to fish with so many people, but managed to squeak out enough for a solid fish fry. Glad to finally get on the board this year. 😁

thx 4 report...I'm going to try to it down there around noon tomorrow...Will report if I make it... fish thumb

It was nice weather to be on the Yegua but the fishing was not that great as the past three days. I had to work hard for the 10 whites and 1 crappie I caught. My cousin Jon must have caught all the fish on Sunday. I did talk to a few people that were there yesterday and they told me the fishing was on fire but today the creek was a foot lower then yesterday. Maybe we can get some more ran the next couple of days to get another one to two feet rise.

I think the weather might have also played a role today. I fished different white bass run today [off topic] [align:center][/align]and my best white bass fly barely got pecked more than twice. The day just felt off for fishing, even though the solunar calendar was hot today. But still nice to be out and about for awhile.

Thanks for the report! If the creek keeps dropping, J-Moe and his magic fly rod will be the only one catching.

Great day at Newmans Bottom today. 6 fish in a little over 2 hrs. It was my first day getting out in a while and had some issues with my fly rod and fly line. Also broke off alot. Going back out tomorrow morning. The white bass are hugging bottom off small current seams and deep holes. Bright colors seem to work well. Great to see so many out on the water catching fish, Tight lines! fish

What a great day.. Putting to many hours in at work so I "had" to cut back...
Got the the Yegua just before 2pm and caught fish the whole time I was there. Lost several flys working the bottom but that was the trick today.
I don't know for sure how many I got to hand but several ended up on the stringer of a fellow bank beater.
Yellow is the color and deep are the fish anywhere in the slack water with good depth.
I caught mostly big females at first and then a good mix of males in the rest. I'm guessing I was closing in on 20 fish before calling it quits around 5pm..

I did learn one important lesson today as I was driving into Newmans...
The park ranger was writing tickets for parking on the side of the road before the parking lot.
DO NOT BLOCK the gate or park on the side of the road..

If the parking lot is full you must park all the way back at the front gate and walk in from there...
Thank goodness there was room in the parking lot when I got there...

I suspect the whitebass are all the way up the creek now so fishing up to and above Irwin bridge is probably good too..

Yesterday (Monday) was our first day of 2022 at the Yegua/NB. I broke my old fly rod within 3 casts. Not a good start. We saw J-Moe doing his thang. We talked with him for a little while. He asked if we wanted his fish. we did. He put about 12 or so in our bucket. He was doing "hook shots" throwing the fish up from the edge of the creek to the high bank behind him. Thank you very much to Mr. Magical Clouser for those fish. Because of him, we won't go hungry... LOL. My wife and I managed 3 more fish after that. Not as many fish for us as we thought would happen. We saw everyone else had 1/2 stringers to limits of fish. But it was a gorgeous day! Nature at its finest.

We went back out today (Tue). both days we arrived around 2pm and fished to dark thirty. I bought another fly rod and reel at Cabelas in Austin/Buda before coming out. I managed 3 fish with it. My work buddy met us out there. he bought a fly rod set up and fly fished for his first time today. We saw Mr J-Moe again. J-Moe gave my buddy his first fly fishing lesson. He caught 3-4 fish right in front of him to show him "how". He graciously gave pointers and tips. And he blessed us with the fish again. THANK YOU again for the lessons and fish J-Moe. of course I watched and learned too. we got to see Mr. Hook-line-&-Sinker today. I can't wait to watch his latest YouTube video from today. I didn't see people with as many fish today as we saw yesterday. I guess the bite was a little off today? For us anyway... or course J-Moe and Mr. Hook-line-&-Sinker found the fish like they always do. Those guys are hard core and awesome to watch. I may be back later this week to try again.

Tight lines all!

Crappie are still crazy plentiful in the creeks. What I’m noticing is folks fishing way to deep for them. The crappie have been holding in the deeper pockets in the creek but way up in the water column. We are fishing 2-5ft down below the surface. Minnows and anything with chartreuse have been working.
Hope this helps some of you add crappie onto the stringer.

Thanks Dan, I enjoyed fishing with you and Yolanda. I checked out a couple of your fishing videos. I look forward to seeing more. I'm sure I'll see y'all again soon.

Thanks for the tip. I may try to catch a few crappie this weekend.

Great day on the fly this morning at Newmans bottom. My uncle came out to fish with me and we got there around 7:45. Fished a little upstream and managed to pull out 6 in some current using a 1/64 ounce yellow marabou jig with a clouser trailing behind. Moved further upstream to a honey hole and pulled out 50 wb . A few feet off the bottom with a swinging technique seemed to work this morning very well. Started getting windy so i called it. All in all, best day of the Yegua this year. fish

Sounds like you had a great time. Must have been a lot of fun with the fly gear. Congrats.

If I am going to catch more fish than JMoe I'll need at least a two hour head start!

Good times on the Yegua!
