TPWD has this posted on their website about last year. Not sure how true it is.

“ In addition, TPWD biologists through genetic analysis of this year’s Legacy Lunkers, have made some incredible discoveries in terms of lineage to previous and other 2021 ShareLunkers. ShareLunker’s 587 and 600 from O.H. Ivie are related to each other while ShareLunker 602 from Coleman City is likely the granddaughter of ShareLunker 410 which was caught at Lake Conroe during the 2006 season. Biologists were able to identify that at least two fish this season, the Lake Travis ShareLunker 597, and ShareLunker 608 from Lake Fork, are fish from the pure Florida Largemouth Bass program that were spawned in and stocked out of the TPWD hatcheries.”

It is not a new species..

You are a human. Shaq is a human. You are not the same. His 16 year old son was 6 foot 9 inches at the age of 16. That's not a coincidence.

Genetics + forage + ideal growing temperature = big bass. The easiest of these to control is genetics.

This is funny.. Shaq's father was 6' 1".. His Mom was 6" 2".. He is about 7' tall..

By your math Shaq's son should grow up to be seven foot thirteen inches..

All species max out..

And bass have.. SL and the state record are both thirty years old..

If something was going to happen, it should have by now..

If a freak fish ever beats the state record I will applaud it.. But it won't be because of the SL program..

I have no idea who any of these people are....nice fish and thanks for putting it back.....do you have any idea how many millions of bass fisherman have no idea who they are?

State and possibly world record fish swimming in Texas waters right now. Probably multiples. They just need to be found. That's what JJ and forward looking sonar has taught us: that there are more big fish out there than we thought, and that they don't act like we thought we knew how they were supposed to act.

Original Googans are JonB. Alex Peric APbassin, Flair (I don't know his whole name), Rob Terkla LunkersTV and Justin Rackley Lake Fork Guy. I think there are more of them now.

And what percentage of those offspring get eaten on the bed? How many survive to adulthood vs the larger fingerlings released by Athens? (I don't know the answer here, but I suspect the latter is much larger).

I mean, to be honest, I have no idea, but with the amount of cover in Ivie at the moment I would bet the survival rate is high. Not exactly a scientific answer, but common sense tells me I am probably not to terribly wrong.

I honestly only knew 2 of them, LFG because of his brain tumor, and Terkla because of guys bringing up his videos in the past because of not liking his attitude and comments (kinda like the Randy Blaukat posts) and giving him hell about poor Toyota and NPFL results.

Bingo

I’ll add that in my unqualified opinion, with all the fish taken from Ivie and transferred to Athens this year it will hurt the lake in years to come. We might get some of those fish back alive and we might not. How many fry did we lose if they did spawn at the hatchery and not the lake? They won’t restock Ivie with all of those fry, they spread them around the state. They’ll give us a token amount, which goes with how they feel about stocking any lake west of hwy 16. I know this will go against some of the SAL huggers, but it’s just mi dos centavos! And by the way a HUGE Congratulations to the young man who caught the fish of a Lifetime!

I’m with James on this one… If the program was a banging success, you would see an upward trend in SLs counts and an increase in weights at the upper end across the state in general. The New Lake effect is driving Ivie. Moving a handful of fish from Ivie to Athens isn’t going to impact fry count or genetics a discernable amount. These fish have already spawned many times. What is the budget for SL? Fertilizing lakes and/or increasing hydrilla coverage would yield better results. The cost might be prohibitive. The downside with fertilizing is you can have a really imbalanced lake if you suddenly stop it. Certain lakes are already so fertile you wouldn’t want to go that route.

Justin Rackley was actually a late addition to the group

I had a lengthy call with one of the guys at the ShareLunker Program this afternoon. I'll consolidate my notes and share them. I believe the math will speak for itself.
