Very cold last week and now almost 70 all week. Do you think the deep bite will be gone by Friday?

I’d bet it’s gone by friday Matt. I’d be looking in mid depth first thing in the morning while it’s cold then 2-5 ft as it warms up. . There should be some fish still out in mid depth but the party out deep is coming to an end. Time to dust off the anchors and start scanning your tail off up shallow!

I was hoping to get another deep bite but figured a week of warm would change things

I went scouting on Lavon today and the fish that were all bunched up in the deep water last week had mostly gone far as I could tell. It was 38F first thing and got up to 66F by lunchtime.

Per Tim's earlier comments yesterday I think, the temperature has only gone down 2F, and was still at 46F pretty much everywhere I went today.

Heading out tomorrow with the Master Cat'r, so hoping Tim can work his magic again.

He told me he loves a challenge!

Deep gets boring. Shaller is the smoke! Big 'Ol tails slapping the water before you even see your rod take a drink.

You are right TRH. The shallow bite is incredible on big fish. But There is so much shallow water to try to find them in. I am planning on going Friday to either Lavon or Twok. I am waiting on seeing a report from Tim and Bob. Haha. Although I am more confident in running Twok to the shallows.

I can’t fish until Sunday. Another front hitting Saturday will probably screw my morning and scatter the fish. My game plan is to scan mid depth at the first transition out of shallow water early Sunday while it’s cold and then head north up into 2 ft when it starts warming up. Wish I was fishing Friday as that’s going to be a hell of a good day for shallow action!

Our deep bite has been anything but boring Trent. 200-500 lbs per trip and double and triple big fish takedowns has been a ton of fun. I love catching big fish shallow too and watching them take off like a rocket but our last 6 weeks of fishing has been barn burner after barn burner trips. Now here comes the shallow bite and you know Lewisville isn’t the best big fish lake especially in the spring. Catching all these 30-40 lbrs left and right is something you just can’t do in the spring on Lewisville. We’re lucky if we get a 20 or 2

Y'all, BCB and I had a great day today. Weather was beautiful. We were in t-shirts by noon. It's the middle of February! Let that sink in...

Water temp was 46 at sunrise. Lake was dead flat calm all day long. We pulled boards. Baits went down at 8:00 am sharp. $0 minutes in we got the skunk buster. 21 pounds. 40 feet of water. We were missing more fish than what I would consider normal but I think it was because we were using too big of baits. By noon surface temp was up to 51 degrees. We scanned the shallows in a couple places. Marked some fish on the side scan. Had a couple take downs but neither of them buttoned up. We ran two drifts and boated just over 100 pounds. Fish were: 21, 9.5, 7.5, 18.5, 12, 4.2, 4, and 26 for a total of 102.7 pounds. Solid trip but not epic like January. I know y'all are looking for a report to help you decide on where and how to fish this weekend but I don't think this is gonna be much help. Saw a lot of fish deep early, had some success. So early, the pattern was similar to what we saw in January. As it warmed up the bite slowed down and eventually stopped. With the continued warmth I think the odds on going shallow get better and better. But... the return of the north wind and cooler temps on Saturday might scramble things a bit.

I am probably going to be back on the water Sunday. I think I will look deep first, and then start moving up shallower if we don't see the numbers of good fish deep that we have been.

Good luck and be safe everybody!

GB & TL...

We’re at the beginning of the transition guys! There are fish in mid depth and there are fish shallow and it’s hard not to overthink it. Just be prepared to be flexible Matt and have a contingency plan if they aren’t where you think they should be. If you go mid depth first and that doesn’t pan out then you already have your plan b figured out and you pull the trigger and make that run up into skinny water. This time of year is always the most painful for me because if I swing and miss I know someone else is hitting it out of the park. My buddies that fished Twok went shallow and caught over 40 fish and 500 lbs with a 58 lb big fish so there is that to really mess up your fish brain. I will be right there with ya second guessing every decision come Sunday.

Great day with Tim again.

Oh man, after yesterdays scouting mission I knew it would be tougher this go out. Tim knew where to head, and headed to exactly the same area I went to yesterday, but slightly south and slightly deeper. We spotted fish, and before long of course we were catching. Tim is a freakin machine!

Funny story. I hook up then lost 3 fish on the trot, one after the other. Tim looks at me and I'm like?

violin

Next up Tim hooks a nice fish, then battling it on the way in it comes off. Tim looks at me and say 'it must have thought it was you catching it!'

whip

Who needs enemies with friends like this?

Haha!

Skeet master texted me to ask how it was going, and I replied 800 pounds in the boat so far.... but of course he didn't believe me.

I'm going out solo again on Friday. I will try the deep sections first then into the shallows. To point out the obvious I aint no Catfish Tim, so any catching will probably need a divine intervention!!
