Great, June is great for trout in the surf. Probably my favorite month. I lived in Surfside for over 3 years and fished the surf between the bridge and the jetty quite a bit. That’s a really good area.

Surf is best when the water gets “trout green”. First light to about 9am is usually the best. They might be running in the first gut before the first sand bar first thing in the morning. Should be in the second one for sure. There are three guts to fish they go deeper as the sun comes up.

I would start out with a Down South Burner Shad Chicken of the Sea or whatever tail you like. Maybe a couple of colors to try. Also have a top water and a Softdine. All soft plastics on a 1/4oz jig head.

Live shrimp is always the best bet. It’s more of a hassle.

You can catch some nice trout in the surf in the summer months if you hit the conditions right. If the South beats the water muddy then it’s much tougher.

Your choice. My cousin basically free-lines live croakers and sometimes catches, back when 10 was a limit, a limit by 7:30 am. I see people fishing live shrimp under corks with success.

I like walk the dog topwaters, mirrorlure plugs, soft plastics and various flies, like Borski sliders and Gartside soft hackle streamers.

I agree the first gut around dawn to 8:00 or 9:00 am is prime. Any first gut that is waist deep is really prime. The first [Linked Image]

bar and second gut can be great.

Surf is great june-august. Reds and trout prominent. I always fish live mullet and look for the holes, no need to Wade way out there if you can find a hole. 4-5” mullet work well, but those big Trout will slurp down those 7-9” mullet too, just gotta free spool it once they bite it for a little while so they can eat it. The trout in the surf tend to run bigger than the ones in the bay in my experience, you can catch some big fish in the surf, 25-30” trout.
