caught a lot of slimmers below the birds on plastics at POC. Had 3 hooked at same time on 1st cast under birds. Have a picture of one I thought was pretty big, but i don't normally catch them so i really don't know.
when all the fish are gone and all the crops poisoned people will realize u cant eat money

I've caught a huge gafftop out in the Galveston surf on a gold spoon a few years back. That's the only time I've caught one on artificials.

If you have a boat and a GPS find the shell pads left over from gas wells. They are marked on most GPS maps. I tried fishing these a few years back and I caught a ton of gafftop and sand sharks. Nothing else though.

I agree. I don't fish for gafftop. I was telling loco922 where he can find them.

Lake Borgne near Venice, Louisiana is great..lol. I just got back from a charter there and we caught 25 over a pound and 15 over 2 pounds on a white plastic shrimp under a popping cork while trying to get some specks. They are a blast to fight on a spinning rod but as said...very messy.

Every time someone wants to know where to catch something i always have the same answer...CLEAR LAKE...i guess we have everything in this little estuary but i do know at night time this time of year i catch several over 20 inches weighing in around 5 pounds. I've seen them get bigger but i didnt personally catch those. They may be messy but they beat the hell out of hardheads and croaker when it comes to fighting strength.

To tell the difference between a hardhead and a Gafftop, look at the fins, the Gafftops look like long beards like the Italians used to twist into circles.... The top fin and the side fins are about 3 times longer on the GaffTop, they are actually a really cool looking catfish. They kinda look like a Grandpa Catfish
