When I was fishing this past Saturday I was using my Cabelas 78" sock, the wind picked up and I have to put out a second sock, my new BassPro 78" that I got for Christmas. The BassPro sock deployed just like it is supposed to but would keep drifting back into the boat and not stay back slowing me down like socks are supposed to (if that makes sense)it would not stay full of water. The only thing I saw different between the 2 socks when depolyed was the distance from the BassPro sock was about 1-2 feet shorter to the cleat and the Cabelas was. Would this make the sock not function right? I was using the Cabelas drift sock harness on both socks.

I can't find the Cabelas socks anymore

My assumption was that since they are both 78" they should stay full the same and created the same amount of drag

Your sock is in the wash of your boat. You need a longer harness Matt to get your sock out of that dead zone behind the boat. The boat creates a current behind it and is bringing the water directly behind the boat with you and will mess up your sock. Get that longer harness and your sock will get out of that zone and slow you down much better. PS that parachute sock from Cabellas has superior performance to that nylon canvas Bass Pro. I bought the bass pro docks when cabelas socks were discontinued and they just aren’t as good. I searched online and found a guy who had bought up the remaining socks and was selling them on eBay but they are long gone.

Thanks Chris . I will get a longer harness or make an extension for this one. Yeah I was mad that basspro decided to keep theirs instead of keeping the cabelas. I have searched to find one but came up empty handed. Hopefully this basspro one will good enough. I couldn’t understand why it kept drifting back in but that makes total sense

If that doesn’t work for you Matt then you’ll want to experiment with different brands. Lindy makes a 78” that I haven’t tried. I also have an Easterlin 10ft that I rarely use and it works good to slow down big boat like ours.
