I've had both mini female and male. Love the breed. Prefer female.

We’re supposed to be picking up a mini female pup in a few weeks. Been doing research on the breed and we are pretty excited. Will be our first time having one. First off do your research and make sure your puppy is a pure bred mini and not a cross half breed. As popular as this minis have become there’s a ton of mix breeding going on, those typically have lots of medical issues throughout their lives.
Males tend to play in the dirt and get filthy more so than females, that’s the only difference between genders I can think of… all my 15 years of personal experience is with full sized Aussies.

We have had a mini male that we took over because my son didnt have space for him where he lived. Absolutely the smartest dog I have ever been around. Since we live in the country and have about an acre yard fenced he gets a chance to run and still does at age 12. We had him neutered years ago and I dont regret it because breeding was not considered and he became a lot more loveable and less aggressive to our cats and the other dog. They are best buds. Great breed in my opinion if raised in a good environment. I agree with Bandit about males.

Every one I’ve ever been around has been really smart. They try to herd everything, even kids. They like to herd chickens and then they eat them, all of them.
