I learned a long time ago that braid was not all its cracked up to be when it comes to sensitivity. My first clue was fishing weightless flukes on Mono, Fluro, and braid. I pretty much never felt the bite with braid but could see and feel the bite with Mono and Fluro. This video popped up on my YouTube feed and did a good job illustrating what I have been preaching to people for years.

This video just solidifies why I only keep one reel spooled up with braid in my boat.

Braid is the most sensitive until there’s slack in your line.

Of course. I would think of braid as rope vs fuoro as glass. Obviously sensitivity is higher with fuoro and even mono because braid is so much softer. With that being said I can't stand fuoro on my spools. I can cast braid much further than fluoro and without the headaches of memory fluffing up into frustration every cast. I know. You can use spray or whatever to manage it. Meh. Fluoro is leader material as far as I'm concerned. To each his own.

Tie braid and fluro and mono to a tree and stretch the line until its tight, then do a hookset-braid is far more sensitive. I tried fishing with mono/fluro years ago
just to see how sensitive it was-it was like fishing with a rubber band. I fish braid with a 6-8 ft fluro leader-best of both worlds.

I think he did a good job conveying the concept, but I'd me more interested to see how that translates over 40 yards of line out mid-cast or at least the other end of a pool before being convinced it makes a tangible difference. I'm struggling with that little bit of energy, traveling through a medium [not just air in his test], over a long distance really making it to my rod blank. The flipping example, sure, that seems reasonable. I'm skeptic on something like a ned rig, jig, etc.....andddd it has to occur on slack line for it to be a benefit.

With braid your not going to feel anything on slack line. For that fluro reigns depending on how much slack.

I would think its pretty easy to test the idea.
Take a heavy bait and throw it out on both lines. Let it have some slack as it falls and compare the different feel when it hits the bottom.

Or with a Scuba-Steve Swimmer in a swimming pool on one end of the two casts.

I think it's spot on. I throw a lot of jerk baits. I can feel a strike on slack line with floro.

I’m not sure how well his “test” relates to real world fishing.

I think he should have also run the test with Mono as a control on this test, which we know sucks on bite detection. My guess is this is a better “test” for how supple a line is.

Good quality braid has so many other advantages and I’ve not felt a lack of “bite detection” with it. I always watch my line and it telegraphs movement very well and you can see the line so much better.

No way I’m switching to fluorocarbon for main line on this “test”. I do like fluoro for leader tho.

Ive swithched all of my bottom contact baits from fluoro to braid to a leader.

the sensitivity and power are absolutely unreal. only catch is you have to be confident in your connection knot and retying leaders occasionally.
