I'm staying at the girlfirend's place in the Woodlands and I was planning to fish Lake Raven as much as she will allow. Anyone have any tips or useful info? About the lake, not dealing with her, she's been mean since day one and I'm used to it.

Do you have a boat or you are going to try and fish it from the bank? In either case, if you want to have much of a shot at catching fish this time of year I'd suggest getting on google earth and looking for ponds nearby you can get on.

Had a yak and was pond fishing, but it was stolen. I have a decked out jon boat and I have been catching bass around the Crockett area. Raven is just closer and I do enjoy seeing new water. This year has been cold, but I once had a January day where I landed several 4lbers, four 5lbers, and 8 and a 10. So cold I had on two hoodies, sweatpants, under thermals, and a beanie. There had been a few warm days and the spawn had started. So January is a must month for me and I fish Jan- late April with a devotion that would have really helped me in school.

By the way J, I have heard that down there in Houston the little neighborhood ponds have DDs that are just crazy hard to catch. What do you know of this awesome sauce?

I know that Raven generally fishes tough and if you want to catch fish you are better off pond fishing in the immediate Houston area, at least that's my two cents for this time of year. DD's are crazy hard to catch anywhere, but the are plenty of 5-8s to be caught in the ponds down here.

I can never find many ponds around her place that are more than a tiny park pond. I have looked and looked. Some are just private and they're the only ones that are worth going to. One even has a ramp.

Lake Woodland parkway is fantastic place to fish, just fall right in and act like you own it and they will leave you alone because those people think they own it too, they Probably do.

I was there once and a security guard was being a a royal Richard to my girlfriend. Never said anything until I had gone the truck and then walked up to her and said "Don't cast that again". That's not how adults speak to anyone who isn't their child. I came back and she told me and the guy started in on the trespassing spiel. I ask for his security ID. The state requires all security personnel to be registered. Didn't have one. We left, but after I asked him whether I should send a cop over to give him a ticket and teased him a while. Bougie area that I can not get used out there.

To me, Lake Raven is a total hit big or miss big lake. You can fish that lake 100 times and never have one of those monster catches. Then you get on the internet and find out someone caught a hog on it. I am by no means a great fisherman, but I've caught my share. I have never caught numbers or size on Raven. I stopped going there a few years back due to those results. Good luck to anyone going there.

It's got bigguns. I had two days in a row last March where best went 30 plus both days with only 1 fish off a bed. Everything else was in 6-8 FOW. Trip 2 weeks ago I got 1 bite, a 4.21 on a chatterbait. It's a perplexing mistress.

It is a peaceful lake. Some days it seems like there are no fish, some days they seem to be everywhere but always peaceful.

They could, but I took the same class they did and have a higher certification. I don't do it now, but night guard was a sweet job. I watched Game Of Thrones and fished the golf course ponds all night. Why anyone would agree to be a day time unarmed guard who is rude to women fishing is beyond me, but entertaining.

This might piss off anyone who fishes this place and doesn’t want word out. Or it’s possible the place has gone to hell now and not worth a trip but having said that...

Years ago when we moved to The Woodlands from Coonarse-land I found myself in a similar predicament looking for a good close fishing hole. A buddy who grew up there told me about this sweet little spot full of football bass with very little fishing pressure right in the middle of The Woodlands. You need a kayak or canoe to fish it. There’s no way to fish it from the bank and I made the mistake of trying to wade it one time and that’s a bad idea. Tons of [censored] on the bottom and not safe.

Anyway check out Bear Branch Reservoir. The lake used to be thick with matted coontail and hydrilla with a deep creek channel down the middle. On any given afternoon you could absolutely kill the fish on horny toads or ribbits or buzzbaits in the pockets. Huge blowups by lots of 3-7# fish and more than once broke off fish I know were double digits.

moved away from The Woodlands five years ago so I have no idea if it is still the same. Dropped pin

Also after heavy rains you can slay them in the spillway which you can see from kuykendahl. To access the lake you have to park at the bear branch park down by the soccer fields and theres a long walkway/trail down to the water. Enjoy and good luck!
