hey all! in my previous thread I was told to use carp as bait, and I just got back from the asian market. All they had was buffalo head and steak, so I picked the two up since it was 3 bucks for about 1.5 pounds of fish and it looked pretty damn similar to carp. Ive also heard gar love buffalo, so I thought catfish might like em too. anyone use buffalo for bait? how did it work out? thanks!

Buffalo will work. Chicken breast too. If your fishing that cut then try and get all the way south and cast out to one of the 3 X I marked. [Linked Image]

i would love to get down all the way to the south, but given its about half a mile down, I doubt my dad will be able to make it all the way down there. [Linked Image]

alternatively, would these places happen to be a good spots for cats? I'm not well versed in contour or structure terminology, but it seems to make a little flattish area.

Buffalo will work too, just like carp. The areas you marked are deep and may produce. However, the areas marked by El Gato hold a lot of white bass and shad. That equals to catfish also. The walk to the end is an easy walk, but if your Dad can't go that far, then try the area you marked.

Cut Buffalo is a great bait, at the get together El Gato had on Lewisville, every single fish we caught came on cut buffalo.

Hi Daniel and welcome! That is a good spot to bank fish and the end as pointed out might be best. But I have caught fish all along that area at one time or another.

As mentioned buff works great and can be found at H mart and other stores like that.

Chicken breast work very well too. I usually look for the ones that are on "Manager special" as they are about to expire and suitable for bait (also cheaper). I chunk them up and cover them with Strawberry jello and leave them overnight... or several nights in the fridge. Not sure this adds scent or what not but it makes them firmer...tougher and they stay on the hook better. A good option if you cannot get the primo bait.

Gizzard shad, Bluegill heads, fresh carp/buff and threadfin will usually outproduce chicken. But not always. I know its not easy to net the best baits when your on the bank in the winter!

If I get on any fish from the bank soon I will let you know. Guys have been generous with me with spots so I am happy to pass that info on if I think you have a shot a fish. Last trip was quiet for cats. Just caught buffs and carp. I like to fish two rods for cats and two for carp/buffs. I chum up the area pretty good and can usually catch something. I have been fishing Grapevine more than the Lew lately. I have had better luck from the bank, there is no fee where I fish and its actually closer to my crib.

Good luck and keep posting. Cant wait to see you catch a big one.
