So I was planning to fish for trout and arrived at Bastrop state park right before 10:00. They told me the pond is closed and no one can fish it, even though the stocking schedule said it was stocked Friday. I was annoyed, so I turned around immediately and went over to the Bastrop north shore park. It was windy and lot of the day and water is 64 degrees surprisingly. I caught 2 normal sized bass and lost a third because my lines got tangled and I couldn't set the hook. I think 2 Lmb is acceptable for January, caught them on a spoon. Only one fishing boat on the water today and I didn't see him catch anything but I was jealous of his boat's wind fighting ability. A nice day overall I guess, it was nice to see pine trees again, there aren't any in San Antonio.

We had a club tournament (Katy 4F) there on Saturday 01/08 and we caught a bunch of fish, just mainly in the 12-16" range, Big bass was only 18".
I think the ticket was throwing a chatterbait over the grass and wacky worm, and there is a lot of grass out there.

Because of the wind, and I'm in an inflatable, I stay fairly near the park. Lots of vegetation, I was constantly getting hung up.

You probably saw us on the north side. We use an anchor even on still days to finesse a spot. We saw you fighting the wind.

We ended up with 18 mostly on motions, nothing of size. We did catch two there on softs.

IMO - the next time you go to Bastrop, put your spoon away. There is way too much grass. Fish a very shallow diving crankait, a weedless swim bait and a spinner bait instead.
