Hello everyone! a few years back my granddad gave me my great-grandad's fishing reel and rod (couldn't bring the rod as it was too big.) I was binging Jeremy wade since I was bored, and I remembered that I had the reel. I was wondering if anyone knows about the reel or has any experience with it? seems like a solid reel since it's practically completely made of metal and weighs a fair bit too. according to the label on the spool, it can hold up to 225 yards of 100lb braid, but I can't find much on drag weight and etc. Just might get me into bigger fish, if I can find the right rod. what do yall think?

(wasn't sure what thread this would fit in best, so please let me know if there is a better thread to post this in)

That’s great. I have a couple of open face reels that were my grand dads. Will post pics when I get home.

Its an Olympic ES-5, was made in the early 90's. No collector value but sentimental value is priceless.

gotcha. was never planning to sell, but wanted to see whether it's fishable. i cleaned up the dried up grease and fixed up the drag system. Seems to be in practically mint condition! drag also seems to be relatively strong, so I'm feeling hopeful.
