I posted this in the freshwater form but seems to be more appropriate for this forum.

I know that Livescope has been around longer than Active Target but having always been a Lowrance guy I just wonder why I see very little about Active Target on this forum.

While at it, it seems as though Garmin Livescope is more favorable to many crapie anglers in compare to the Lowarnce Active Target. My question is if someone already owned a Lowrance Carbon or later unit, is there a significant advantage to go with the whole Garmin setup vs just to settle for the Active Target Sonar?
Thanks!

As an Active Target owner I will tell you it is dang near even as far as clarity . I haven't seen a video yet that gives Active Target a good depiction of what it can show. And yes, Lowrance units came on my boat when I bought it so financially it made more sense to just but the AT. I have been in boats with Live scope and the picture is definitely cleaner as far as clutter with livescope if you have it set just right. There is some key advantages I've noticed with AT. One being the narrower cone. This definitely forces you to be more accurate with your cast. If you see your crappie and bait in the same screen, hold on! With livescope you can be off by a bit and the fish may not always see it even though you see everything in the same screen. I also do bass fish quite a bit too and the AT is definitely clear at a distance, say 60-80 feet out from the boat

I had LS and don't get me wrong it is great! but since I switched to AT I think it holds a slight edge over the LS for clarity and I noticed you don't have to adjust the settings as much as you do with the live scope when you fish different water clarities.

I have a video of a school of crappie I was fishing. if I remember to upload it when I get home I will.

Great point on the Cone making you more accurate with cast.

I have not chased bass with AT yet but I will soon enough .
Using LS last year for bass was fun on Ivie.

I would have purchased AT , however my existing Lowrance units are HDS gen 2 and therefore not compatible. I have LS and can manage ,but have always used and favored Lawrence !
