My wife purchased Turbo Tax from Amazon and tried to install it on her laptop. She has done this same thing for the last 5 years and it has always worked. This time when she launched the EXE file, a window popped up saying it was extracting the files, it went through the extraction process and then nothing happened after that. There were no errors or pop ups or nothing. After a bunch of research, I have concluded that this has happened to others but there was no resolution given. I did find the in the log file where Turbo Tax started the process but no other log files were created. Her and I have the exact same level of Windows OS (21H1 Build 19043.1415) so I thought I would try it on my machine. On my machine the EXE extracted the files and launched the install shield. It also generated a number of logs indicating that the process was running correctly. I compared our Windows Installer services setting and they are identical. I am at a loss at this point. Does anybody have any remedies to this? I thought I would check with the English speaking community first before facing my next alternative which would be to either speak with Achmed or install the software on my PC meaning she would need my machine anytime she wants to do tax things.

Right click on the EXE file and select 'Run As Administrator'

I forgot to add that I was running as Administrator on both machines.

Did you right click and run as administrator or just the user is an administrator?

or try installing logged in under another user account, might be a corrupt user profile. Same anti-virus on both computers?

Is the Turbo Tax exe running from a disk (CD) or from a "download" version from Amazon?

Same anti virus on both machines and the file is an EXE from Amazon.

You might want to buy the CD version from Walmart. I think something is missing from the Amazon version. Or a license key, etc. ? I dunno, just some ideas. If you buy one from Walmart, Target, etc. and it works, Amazon will refund your money.

Thanks for all of your suggestions. If I come across a solution, I will share it. As a 47 year mainframe/database guy this kind of [censored] is very frustrating and keeps me awake at night.

Turn off Windows Defender Firewall, unregister and re-register the Windows Installer service and reboot.

If you have a current system restore point prior to attempting the Turbo Tax install, you may try reverting back to it and attempt the install again. I try to remember to create one prior to installing any new software.

I just do it online. I swiftly give them anything and everything that’s asked for and have them host all my info. It’s supposed to be secure.
