Since Squaw Creek is closed I assume Welsh is getting hammered. Going to be at Fork in a few days and thought about spending a day at Welsh but don’t want to fight big crowds. Is the traffic light during the week right now or busy every day and is the power plant even running now?

Traffic is pretty heavy everyday now (since the closing losing Monticello, Fairfield and Squaw Creek). No idea if the plant is running or not. Last I heard (on this site), it was not running.

We been two times within the last 10 days and plant was not running. Fishing was tough both days but managed a few still. Both times during the week all before this cold front. Water then was 58 - 63 depending what area you was fishing. 1st time 6 boats 2nd 8 boats.

Thanks for the response. What I found online was that it wasn’t running. Figured it might be a good place to go with Fork being drawn down.

Been going to Welsh a couple of times a week since middle of Dec. HAVE NOT seen more than8-10 trucks at the ramp at one time. Was there yesterday,7 trucks. I go during the week, not on weekends. There is no heavy traffic or waiting to launch. They pump water thru the channel all the time, but the plant has not generated since I started going back. The fishing is not near what it is when they generate, but you can still manage a few. Water temp yesterday was 57-61. Hope this helps. Just a side note, why not Fork? I guess you didn't fish here a few years ago when it was down 7-1/2'. When you found'em you got well real quick. Just sayn

See my report from the week before New Years. Things must have slowed WAY down as I was there on a Thursday and by 8am the parking lot was completely full of boats. And as I was leaving later in the afternoon, there were more boats putting in. Upper end of lake was jam packed with boats following each other around. Temps mentioned above were about the same when I was there so it doesn't sound like the plant has been generating much in the last few weeks. You may catch a few more fish on Welsh than Fork but they'll probably be 14-16 inches.

Ditto on the boat traffic. Christmas to New Years is always packed. Weekday traffic with the lack of generating(cold water) will be light now that some people went back to work. There’s a reason the traffic is light. Welsh is not “Welsh” in the winter without hot water pouring out of the plant warming the entire lake to 70 degrees. The 58-63 degree water mentioned above is actually cooler temps than I found last week at Bridgeport and Whitney. As mentioned above: lots of “cold water” lake choices as good or better than (non generating)Welsh including Fork(IMHO) in the winter. Maybe with these way cooler temps we are now getting electrical demand will cause them to begin generating? Good luck and post your results.

So if Fairfield closed or is the power plant not running ?? I was thinking about going for the first time this weekend.......

I only made it to Fork a few times a year and mostly at night. I was taking girlfriend and was hoping Welsh was running to let her catch a few more
