Were working on a 1960 house and finding all sorts of surprises. Do any of you olders know if this is the dreaded asbestos insulation? Been looking at pics, but can't find anything exactly like it. Wanted to check the general OT knowledge. The termite damage is impressive.

Have it tested if your concerned. I've mostly found it vinyl flooring glues when we have had old homes tested.

Rock wool insulation. It was the blown in insulation in the attic of our first house built in 1972 in Garland.

I only knew of insulation. Didn't know they put it in other things. Interesting...and I got to learn.


Going over what little was left of that paper, Imma go with the Rock Wool. Phew.

was the pink fiberglass of the 50s/60s, perfectly safe with a dust mask.

it is a great product actually

looks like ceramic tile from the 70s, no asbestos in that.

exterior shingle siding tiles from the 40s on, shingles from 40s on, popcorn ceilings from the 60s/70s, linoleum floor tiles from the 40s on and some less common stuff all had asbestos 99% of the time.

Add the water heater vent to the list as well, although that one isn't hard to spot.
