I've got the boating itch again, gents. Talk me out of it.

Pros:

Time with the familia.
Get to look at Mrs. Motos fake "assets" in a bikini. On the lake. With beer

Cons:

Very few weekends available after racing
No room to store it at the casa. Have to rent a stall.

I really like older Ski Nautique and Mastercrafts.

Talk to me boys!

I have two reasons for ya.

1. I have been told that a boat is no more than a hole in the water that you pour money in.

2. If it flys, floats, or f_____, it's generally cheaper to rent them than own them.

Look! Up in the sky. It's a bird. It's a plane. No, it's an EMP!

#1 is completely true.

#2 not renting a boat. That's like renting to own rims and tires. Dumb

Owned a boat for 10yrs, sold it and started renting various types as needed.
I enjoy it, no worries or work just boating. There are clubs as well. Too easy.

I've considered selling my boat and just going out with a guide every once in a while. That accounts for #2 for me. Back when I guided, I never minded the better halves tagging along and tanning their assets while we fished. wink

I have owned a boat for almost 10 years. I have a 23’ NauticStar hybrid that is awesome but...... If fishing and water wasn’t my #1 hobby, it would not like it near as much. Cost of maintenance, registration, electronics, the list goes on.

If you just want to take the new bride and kids out to have fun every now and then, just rent one. They are everywhere to rent then you don’t have to mess with making sure it will run when you want to use it.

I’ve seen others not use their boats and have trouble, don’t buy one unless you plan on using it multiple times a month.

This is a fishing forum. If you are thinking about ski boats, I’m gonna suggest investing that money into the cart racing habit.

Go for it, might consider a pontoon.

I couldn’t imagine not having a boat, those Mastercrafts with the stars on the side look pretty good, I have a lot of time on a slalom behind them. Now days I’m a center console sort of guy. The one accessory you must get even if you don’t need it is an anchor. It’s always a good view when you have to send the wife to check it and see why it’s stuck.

Just get it. The worst that could happen is that it sinks.
