Hello everyone,

Happy New Year! I decided to join the forum because I fish at Texoma often. My dad and I share a boat and slip at Eisenhower and we love to fish. I took friends out with a striper guide in 2018 and have been hooked ever since. I am still a rookie, trying to learn from videos, info online from guides, and now this forum. My dad and I catch our fair share, but have never been able to duplicate what we did with the guide. I have a pontoon boat, thumper, all the fancy sassy shads, flukes, jigs, fish finder, and everything I need to catch a lot of striper. I went out yesterday from 9-5 and only caught 2 fish. Very frustrating, fished in the rain, and my fish finder was covered up with fish multiple times. Dead-sticked flukes, casted sassy shad off of points, drop jigs to the bottom, etc.

I understand your frustrations you have expressed on here Paul. Not sure why I could not land more in the boat yesterday, but I love the challenge and love to be on the lake. Thank you for all the information, help, and guidance. I am addicted to striper fishing and look forward to talking and learning more on this forum. I wish the birds were still feeding to help me find the fish too!

Brandon

Thank y’all for the reports, this has been a very helpful thread! Todd it definitely seems like that area is the preferred area to be this time of year. I always launch at the dam because it’s only 10 mins from my home. I do venture up the Washita(went up there yesterday), but like everywhere else, it was the Dead Sea, at least for me. I appreciate the invite and might very well take you up on the offer to learn more about these stripers. Thank you!

Welcome to the forum Brandon! Reading your post, I feel like I’m reading about myself. I too am fishing out of a pontoon boat as I sold my bass boat about a year ago. I don’t have quite the bells and whistles that you do, but I do have a decent graph so I do know when I’m on fish or not. Anyway, yeah I’ve been watching tons of YouTube(thanks Chris Carey!) trying to soak up all I can, but when I go out on the lake, it’s nothing like what I saw in the video! roflmao I’m just gonna keep chunkin and windin and try to put the puzzle pieces together; that’s the part that keeps me coming back thumb

Thank you!

That is a nice fish! I agree, about the time I have it all figured out, the striper show me otherwise! I know there are some big ones out there, and it is a blast to catch any at all. My personal best is 7 lbs so far. My dad and I caught 9 in about 4 hours one day, that is my overall best in one day. Looking forward to learning more and competing with these fish. Those YouTube videos always get me pumped up to go fishing...I have to keep in mind, only the best days of fishing are posted, not every day. We all love to post our highlights, right!?
