Last night my son, grandson, and myself went to Braunig Lake Catfishing. We kept 52 catfish that fileted 28 pounds. Caught them on Big Marv's Cheese Bait. Caught them in about two feet of water. We fished for about four hours.

wow, mind if I ask what part of the lake? I am new here, and have gone out there three times and have not cuaght a thing. I tried cut shad, shrimp, and DK's punch bait..I cast far, I cast close, on the bottome and under a bobber, not even a bite all day and well into the night. so I assume I must be in the wrong place. any help appreciated, I want to catch a catfish and get my self esteem back!

Navto first i would go to the store at the lake park and buy some Big marv's bait and try it. Also if you are fishing from the bank, try around some reeds are on a point. the fish usualloy feed in shallow water at night. I am logged in as CATFISH KILLER, but I am the owner and maker of Big Marv's Bait Company. I have fished Braunig and Calaveras for about 17 years using only this bait. Both lakes sell a lot of my bait. If you try it and like it you can get a larger amount from me. My number is (830) 789-4445 are you can get it from Harry Lamb by Braunig Lake his number is (210) 559-8420 Harry is also a very good guide. He will fish catfish or downrig for reds or strippers.

nice plug.have to try it soon He really doesn't need to "plug" it because the bait really does work. I would say he's only trying to give some needed, helpful information, since that is what the man ask!

Though i live in Dallas now, I grew up fishing all parts of Braunig & Calaveras. In the summer months, we would catch catfish on the surface, just about anywhere on the lake. The best spot was around the south point where all of the bank fisherman are. The water is around 15 ft deep and we would use a two hook leader and instead of a weight at the bottom, we would use a third hook and set this under a floater about 12" down. We would double hook live chad on all three hooks and cast it out about 20 down wind of the boat. We would catch 20 to 30 almost every time we went. We would also catch an occasional red or striper, but mainly cats. It's been seveal years since I have fished Braunig or Calaveras, but I know that this worked well when I did.

If you truly want to learn how to catch catfish in general and want to learn Braunig specifically, invest in a trip with Marvin. He can teach you more in one outing than you can learn on your own in six months. His bait is good but his knowledge is even better. Jess

It's been seveal years since I have fished Braunig or Calaveras, but I know that this worked well when I did. want to make sure I have this right...live shad (what size?) and only 12 inches under bobber? what kind of bobber, would a pole float work well? also, what do you mean by "double hook" the shad? sorry so many questions, but I want to catch something! I already tried about a 5 inch live shad about 2ft under a lighted lucky jack slip bobber at calaveras, he swam all over the place, but never got hit by anything... also, big marv, thanks for the tips, Im sure your bait works well and I intend to try it...but since I didnt get any bites on DK's or shrimp, I think my problem was location or time rather than bait. but I will give your product a try next time I go out there. thanks everyone for the advice!

Novato, we used to use 2" to 3" shad. When I say double hooking, I mean run the hook thru the body of the shad just behind the gills and then bring it back thru the body just before the tail. Yes, this will kill the shad in about 3 to 5 minutes, but this is what you want. You can use any kind of bobber/ floater, and place the leader end 12" below the bobber. The next time you are out at Braunig, look and see if you see fish breaking the surface. It will be very subtle, so you'll have to look carefully. A lot of people thought that this was carp and moved on and some of the fish are carp, but I discovered that most were catfish and the rest, as they say, was history.
