I don't know where else to put this. I have a 15-year-old galvanized boat trailer. As expected, the steel "C" brackets that support the bunks have been rusting over the years. I have wire-wheeled them as best as I can, then sprayed them with galvanized paint but they are getting thin. Can the old brackets be cut off and new ones be welded in their place? Or do you have to bolt new ones on?
Thank you!

We won’t weld that stuff at my shop. It’s kinda dangerous. It will self ignite and pretty much generate its own fuel from the burning zinc. Almost like magnesium.

I know it can be welded but I know the welder has to wear PPE and the area has to be properly ventilated. I have not even seen any weld-on replacement bracketry. Everything I see is bolt-on.

Have torch cut and welded on many. Just open the shop doors, setup a fan if ventilation is questionable and don't breath in the blue smoke. You'll be fine.

Respirator too!
Cousin welds on that [censored] nearly every day, and respirator is mandatory! If its me, I'd definitely wear one even for occasional job.

Ive never heard about auto igniting.
You will need to wear a half face cartridge respirator and use a fan in an open area. Look on internet for additional info.
