Boat ramps...squaw creek hill can be slick for a 2wd. I've always had 2wd trucks till this one and there have been a number of occasions that I could have used 4wd.

Couldn’t do my job without one. Completions consultant working everything from North Dakota, Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico, and Texas. A wet or snowy lease road after as frac fleet and hundreds of loads of sand are on it gets pretty rough.
F350 FX4 and a damn good winch at all times here.

I would guess I use mine 3-4 days a week. I have one nasty hill on my place you will ruin tires getting up it if in 2wd, and a few creek crossings you need it to go across. I will use it when it rains and stays raining for days and keeps everything muddy in the winter. The one and two day rain events will dry up pretty quick, and I stay off my roads or take my Ranger or Four Wheeler and don’t destroy my roads. I have found the weather is somewhat predictable most of the time, and proper planning will prevent you from having to put yourself in a situation that is not ideal.

I have two Z71’s. I don’t know if the 4 wheel drive works on either one anymore it’s been so long since I needed it.

Last truck was 2X and I can say only needed it once without a doubt, but there are quite a few times I would have used it if I had it. New one has it and already needed it once.

Used 4 wheel drive about a week ago at the duck hunting lease. I use it enough to justify having it.

Some years I use it pretty often, sometimes I go a year or two without needing it. Sure glad to have it when I need it though. Some freak storms and needing to get to work, I throw it in 4 high and boogie. In some situations when waterfowl hunting I need it, and always glad to have it. Was on a scouting mission down on the river the other day and put it in 4 high six times the sand was so bad. I never really go looking for situations to need it but find myself needing it every so often. Was stuck 4 hours from home once and the highways were shut down, and took 2 lane highways all the way home and kept in 4 high the whole way home. Only reason I was able to get home was because the truck had it. I will never be without 4x4 in a truck

A wise man once told me that 4wd vs 2wd doesn't matter when you hit the brake pedal. Wise words.

This is my last 2wd vehicle. My next vehicle will be 4wd. I would use it (on average) 3-6x a year most likely. That isn't very much, but this would be mainly a tow/road trip vehicle that gets ~5-8k miles a year.

Use it periodically at the hunting lease and on boat ramps.

My wife really likes to use 4L on the boat ramp when pulling the boat out. Makes it really easy for her....just release the brakes and start crawling up the ramp. Don't even need to touch the gas pedal.

I had a 2000 F250 4x4 7.3 w/bumper-mounted winch when I lived in Maryland at the time. When a big snow would hit I would get on the road along I-295, Rt 50, and Rt 3 asking yuppies who slid off the road into a ditch in their recently-thought-omnipotent 4X4 whatever how much it was worth them in time and money for me to pull them out. Told them I charged $20 a pull instead of the $75 plus a commercial rig would have cost them which they would have to wait for. I made a killing every snow storm, but did pull out plenty of charity cases for free but only if they were females alone or with kids.

I have a picture of my dad and grandfather on the sand with a boat trailer hooked to their Buick. I remember dad pulled our boat with a LeSabre. They were both pipeliners and retired from United Gas Pipeline. I remember dad drove a big crew cab standard transmission truck with a mechanical winch. But those guys always had equipment around. I don't remember him getting stuck in his truck cars though. I know I buried that Ramcharger to the frame before. Dad would have stopped long before it got to that lol.
