Has anyone ever fished greenbelt in their kayak (or from the bank) for crappie? I was wondering how good it is to put in up at the greenbelt hiking area off of HWY 428 where there is a canoe launch and to fish the trees along there. I'm kinda new to crappie fishing scene so any areas in the Denton County that you recommend that can be accessed from the bank or by kayak would be highly appreciated.
Thank You and Good Luck out there on the water!! [And in the field for you hunters :)]

Welcome to crappie fishn.... I'm not familiar with that area so not much help from me but one thing I will recommend is be sure to find test results from whatever body of water you fish (if you plan on consuming them) to make sure they are safe to eat.....

That portion feeds from ray roberts into Lewisville. I fished it in my kayak years ago and did ok. You can also access hickory creek by the old alton bridge. Your 3rd option is denton creek north of lake grapevine. Drop in at the trophy club launch ramp.

Those fish come from Lewisville. As far as I know there isn't any chemicals dumped in Lewisville. There is some water treatment plants that dump in Lewisville but I believe those are safe.

I’ve fished that area many times in a kayak putting in at 428 and paddling upstream. I’ve caught way more sand bass than crappie, the creek is full of them. The main problem there is the log jams. Sometimes you cant go more than 100 yards before you come to a log jam blocking the whole creek. There are no banks to speak of to get out and go around on. They got so bad I pretty much stopped going. Good luck if you give it a try. Wear your PFD!! And tell somebody where you’ll be, you’ll be the only one out there in the winter!

Good mix of crappie and sandies in there. It does not fish as good as it used to but there are fish. Fish are fine to eat and there are lots of trees to fish LOL

I scouted there a couple days ago and honestly the log jams and the amount of trash makes me kinda frustrated. Would be great if the city would maintain it. Really would like to fish it for sandies in march
