It was a good weekend if you are into Texas High School Volleyball. I was able to enjoy a number of the matches.

In 5A, Lovejoy (who I am thankful to get to announce for) took home its 9th (and 3rd straight) title in 15 years of the school's history, plus my daughter's teams from 10-11 years ago were recognized on the court for their championships.

I know football is king in Texas, but volleyball at this level is about as exciting as it gets.

Very proud of these girls and the rest of the state qualifiers.

Nice! My daughter started Jr. High volleyball this year and she really likes it. Gotta say it was way more exciting than I had expected.

Mine also started jr high volleyball and it’s fun to watch. She’s gotten me into watching the Longhorns when they play and that is amazing how fast they can react to the ball. Helps that Texas is the number two team in the nation.

My girls always tried to play (1A school), but I finally convinced them that they weren't ever gonna get a scholarship for Volleyball, but a scholastic one could be reached. We watched a whole bunch of college girl's volleyball and they finally figured out that being short little Mexican heritage girls wasn't gonna let them compete with the Amazons they saw on tv.

One now is working on her PhD in education, one has a Masters in Nursing and is teaching, one has the project I bragged about, and the fourth is farming, hunting, and raising two kids up in Arkansas.

All that being said, it is still a pretty cool sport to watch.

Followed it for a bit, two towns I’m close to both were playing for titles, Gunter and Celina.

Unfortunately both of them lost.

My wife was recognized on the 3A side for the same thing! Won state in 2010, ended up playing D1 Volleyball....praying our future kids get those genes.

Love the State Tourney. One of the best deals going if you like high school athletics. Paid $15 for the whole day Saturday to watch 3A-6A Finals.
