Jared and I fished a long stretch of nails yesterday and the catching was almost nonexistent.

Same here for JMoe and I on Friday afternoon.. Walked into Nails, fished down to just past the trailway bridge. JMoe picked up one crappie and a sunfish and I managed only one blackbass.

Not much movement in the water but there is plenty of water and that is the key to good winter/spring fishing at lake Somerville.

Sunday I kayaked the Yegua putting in at newman bottom. Same story on the Yegua.. plenty of water but the fish weren't in the mood to visit with me..
video to follow shortly..

From past experience when the lake is above normal level in the fall that leads to a good or great spring whitebass/crappie season in the creeks..

Just a reminder, that's it's still duck season to those looking to yak up the creek any time before 9-10am, don't be surprised to hear gunfire very close. Please be respectful of the duck hunters, they really don't take kindly to fishermen getting too close to them while they are trying to hunt.

Also anyone looking to get up the creek to fish and doesn't want to walk or paddle, give me a shout. Licensed guide and USCG licensed Captain. Find me on Facebook Duck-Tails Guide Service. We run two different extreme shallow water boats that can get up the creek without any issues.

If I fished for money.........I'd be broke.

In a world of compromise.....Some don't.

I agree watch out kayakers. I hiked downstream on nails a few saturdays ago. I was surprised at the high speed the duck hunters boat were coming upstream in such a narrow passage. Any kayaker in the way would have been in danger of capsizing or worse. This was below the flag pond cut. One duck hunters boater also accelerated upstream of the cut at a high speed, again a kayaker would have been in trouble if not carefully watching out . For the record I do not kayak and solely a bank fisherman.

If you really need to kayak/fish the Yegua just get a cart and drop in at Newmans just below the parking lot, doing this eliminates that long paddle across the lake where the hunters will be and much of the unproductive water at the lower end of the creek.

Just for update purposes, this was Wednesday Nov. 24th 2021.
Over the next few days after this video was taken we received some rain that stained the creek up just a little and that made the crappie fishing below Newmans a good bit better.
