I have always been an advocate of no government mandated minimum wage. I feel a business owner should be allowed to assign a value to a specific job and pay that amount and let the chips fall. But, minimum wage is a law and in some states, it has gotten out of control. Of course, it is in California.

To you restaurant guys on here. How does Texas minimum wage work for tip eligible employees?

“ The West Hollywood City Council voted Wednesday evening to increase the city's minimum wage to $17.64 an hour, bumping another California city for the highest in the country. ”

Then they wouldn’t have any employees and would have to go to level that would attract the quality of employees they need. It’s a simple concept.

I could be wrong, but I believe that waitstaff and similar tipped employees can be paid $2.13/hr plus their tips

Do you have marketable skills that allow you to make more than minimum wage?

Skilled employees would get $3.00.

Well employment is a two way transaction- either side can walk. If you are worth more than minimum wage then that’s what you will make. I’ve walked from a job that I was being underpaid at- no hard feelings, they get to run their business how they see fit.

For tipped employees you must calculate 2.13 plus the tips they receive during the pay cycle, you calculate what they would have made at minimum wage non tipped and if they did not make minimum wage you have to make up the amount on paycheck.
